Job Description
The Quality Assurance Lab Technician is responsible for testing food and other merchandise in the Quality Assurance Lab. This role involves writing reports for merchandise buyers and management on product specifications, test results, and safety.
Responsibilities
+ Perform routine private label product testing at Buyer's request for food, sundries, and other warehouse products in the on-site laboratory according to QA Lab Product Testing Guidelines.
+ Test products sent from multiple warehouses on a preset schedule for quality control of in-store product.
+ Sort, count, weigh, measure, and evaluate appearance, feel, smell, and taste.
+ Analyze product composition and characteristics and perform quality and statistical testing using various lab equipment, measuring devices, chemical reactions, and sensory input.
+ Fill in product code dates and test results in the laboratory information management system (LIMS).
+ Test supplier samples for product comparison at Buyer request and set up blind taste tests for foods.
+ Assist with special projects as required.
+ Communicate effectively with warehouses, buyers, suppliers, and senior management through various channels.
+ Review, update, and write testing protocols for items in assigned categories.
+ Suggest testing standards and submit protocols on new items to the QA Lab Manager.
+ Pack and mail samples to outside labs and suppliers for further testing.
+ Receive and log arriving samples into the LIMS system, track assigned sample categories, and follow up with warehouses to ensure all samples are shipped.
+ Clean and package coolers for return to warehouses.
+ Maintain cleanliness of the lab area by spraying, wiping, dishwashing, and laundering lab towels.
+ Promptly clean spills following proper safety procedures.
+ Ensure regular and reliable workplace attendance at the assigned location.
+ Operate vehicles, equipment, or machinery as required.
Essential Skills
+ Quality assurance and control experience.
+ Experience with inspection and FDA regulations.
+ Proficiency in SOP, chemistry, and food manufacturing.
+ Knowledge of food safety and batch record review.
+ Experience in laboratory and food quality settings.
+ Document control and quality checks.
+ Four-year degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or Biology.
+ Completion of Food Safety Training – Managers Training within 90 days of hire.
+ Technical writing skills.
+ Intermediate skill level in MS Word and MS Excel.
+ Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
+ Strong interpersonal communication skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Basic pipetting and reading a basic food scale.
+ Experience in quality checks of products and basic testing in support of the Quality lab.
+ Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or Food Science.
Work Environment
This role is 100% lab-based, supporting the quality lab with a focus on precision and safety. The position requires handling various laboratory equipment such as PH meters, microscopes, spectrophotometers, scales, and other advanced testing devices. The working hours are determined based on lab requirements, ensuring a structured and safe working environment.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.
