Job Description
General Scope of Duties
The Assistant Director of Alumni and Parent Engagement will focus on four major areas of alumni and parent engagement:
+ Camel Athletics Network ( CAN )
+ Career programming in partnership with the Hale Center for Career Development
+ Alumni affinity engagement
+ Young Alumni Engagement
This position is responsible for overseeing programming, communications, and initiatives related to the above mentioned areas of focus. They will be in regular contact with campus partners including the Hale Center for Career Development, Athletics, the Office of Admission, and beyond, further detailed below. This position supports the mission of the Office of Alumni and Parent Engagement by promoting lifelong relationships among current and future alumni and fostering active and enduring engagement with Connecticut College.
General Duties and Responsibilities
+ In partnership with the Director of Alumni and Parent Engagement and the Director of the Camel Athletics Network, the Assistant Director will implement a yearly calendar of CAN programs (regionally, on-campus, and virtually) for both alumni and families as part of the strategic plan for the Camel Athletics Network. This professional will be responsible for seeing all CAN events and programs through from creation to completion including, but not limited to: building registration pages, developing promotions and communications, personal outreach to identified constituents, day-off staffing, and follow-up communications and reconciliations.
+ Partner with alumni and campus partners to celebrate yearly Hall of Fame inductees. This includes planning, promoting, and overseeing the Hall of Fame Celebration & Induction Ceremony at Fall Weekend; serving on the Hall of Fame selection committee; and other duties as assigned.
+ Partner with Athletics and Archives to identify milestone athletics anniversaries. Work with coaches, Advancement, and college partners to develop meaningful programs to celebrate each milestone.
+ Leverage campus and community partnerships to increase opportunities for career networking and engagement among alumni, parents, the Hale Center for Career Development, faculty, staff, and students. Build a slate of career-focused events and initiatives by cultivating relationships with alumni and parent volunteers interested in engaging with current students about their professional career paths. This focus extends to digital programs focused on networking and continued learning opportunities.
+ Oversee the management, strategic planning, troubleshooting, and development of our interactive online alumni community, the CONNector. Regularly review page content and, when needed, refresh content to ensure that we are consistently sharing updated news, job opportunities, and information regarding upcoming programming and events.
+ If the opportunity arises: partner with the Director of Alumni and Parent Engagement to research, demo, and implement a new online alumni community & directory.
+ Alumni affinity engagement including, but not limited to, management of events, programs, and initiatives connected to pathways, centers, minors/majors, clubs & organizations, etc.
+ Design a five-year plan to redefine the young alumni experience, which is defined as graduates of the last 15 years. This will include a building a comprehensive communication and social media strategy, a detailed plan of action for our youngest three Reunion classes, reimagined programming targeted at these vital class years, and personalized outreach to build our young alumni volunteer base.
+ Responsible for the development and support of a slate of Reunion classes each year. Focus on developing class-specific events that will encourage reunion-ing alumni to return to campus for their milestone weekends.
+ Assist with Fall Weekend preparations and programs and all other events and programs of the Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving Office
+ Serve as staff liaison for 1 – 2 committees of the Alumni Association Board of Directors. Attend CCAB Meetings in October, February & May. Communicate and support committee(s) as needed throughout the academic year
Education and Skills
+ Bachelor’s degree and 1-3 years of relevant work experience required
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills
+ Excellent attention to detail
+ Strong customer service skills
+ Ability to motivate colleagues and alumni/parent volunteers and to work with all staff within College Advancement and the College as a whole
+ Ability to build and sustain key relationships with alumni, parents, faculty, students and staff
+ Strong computer and social media skills
+ Excellent organizational skills and ability to set priorities and keep to deadlines
+ An innovative approach and the ability to work independently and in a team
+ Travel required
+ Occasional evening and weekend work required
