    Overview

    POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT:

    The Sr. Microbiologist is responsible for performing microbiological analysis of raw materials, finished products and other samples as required. The Sr. Microbiologist will coordinate all microbiological testing related activities with other Microbiologists and Lab Assistants/Technicians in a timely manner. This position involves promptly reporting any OOS or other issues to the QC Supervisor or Manager and adhering to provided mentorship.

    DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

    • Test raw materials and finished products for microbial contamination and other microbial tests

    • Prepare and sterilize culture media reagents as the need arises

    • Maintain microbial cultures

    • Timely completion of documentation and reports related to microbiological testing

    • Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment

    • Validate procedures used in the microbiology lab

    • Coordinate with other Microbiologists to schedule work and complete work on time

    • Participate in OOS investigation as assigned by QC Supervisor or Manager

    • Ensure adherence with GMPs and SOPs for all activities in microbiology lab and ensure audit readiness of microbiology lab

    • Ensure reporting any OOS or issues in a timely manner to QC Supervisor or Manager

    • Provide assistance in training other Microbiologists and Lab Assistants/Technicians on microbiological techniques and procedures

    • Review of documentation and test results to assure material meets specifications

    • Interact effectively with coworkers and management in order to resolve problems

    • Produce high quality laboratory data.

    • Responsible for and empowered to stop an analysis that may produce poor quality results as required by ISO 17025

    • Performs other related duties as assigned by management

    Qualifications

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Skills:

    • Good interpersonal and communication skills

    • Ability to communicate optimally verbally and in written English

    • Computer literacy, with solid PC and software experience

    • Ability to lift a minimum of 30 lbs.

    • Strong ability to work independently and as a team member under the pressure of manufacturing

    Experience:

    • A minimum of five years of experience in QC Microbiology in nutraceutical or pharmaceutical industry

    • Knowledge of basic GMP and QA/QC for the nutraceutical, pharmaceutical or medical device industry

    Education:

    • Bachelor of Science in Microbiology or related field

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Previous knowledge and understanding of Quality compliance

    • Previous experience working in a nutraceutical manufacturing environment

    • Bachelor's degree in Technical or Science discipline
