    Job Description:

    The position will provide evidence-based prevention education and support for individuals affected by increased risk factors to enhance protective factors and resilience skills related to addiction and trauma. Our goal is to improve community understanding of prevention topics and readiness by following the strategic prevention framework, which includes areas such as alcohol and other drugs (AOD), sexual health, suicide and violence prevention, and overall wellness. We aim to strengthen and sustain relationships with at-risk populations of all ages and with community partners. This position involves facilitating small group education sessions, focus groups, and workshops that are tailored to be culturally relevant, age-appropriate, and conducive to different learning styles. Additionally, this position will engage with participants and the community in events that promote drug-free activities and facilitate the dissemination of health-related information.

    Pay Range:

    $28.68 to $31.87

    Preferred Qualifications:

    The applicant must demonstrate a foundational knowledge of prevention science, as evidenced by continuing education towards credentials that include the CSAP strategies, the IOM Model, and the Strategic Prevention Framework. The applicant has one year of experience working with at-risk populations in educational or community settings. They have also worked with children and teens affected by addiction. Additionally, the applicant has experience facilitating small group discussions using evidence-based curricula, such as Too Good for Drugs, Safe Dates, Botvin LifeSkills, PAX Tools, and Prime for Life. The applicant has a background in working with diverse populations, including immigrants, refugees, and individuals involved in the criminal justice system.

     

    Under direction, is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing substance use disorder prevention services in the community; performs related duties as required.

     

    Examples of Work

     

    (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.)

     

    Promotes and disseminates substance use disorder prevention information and services throughout the community;

     

    Delivers substance use disorder prevention education and supportive services to student and adult populations in a variety of settings including schools and community-based correctional facilities;

     

    Facilitates and mentors small groups of participants on substance use disorder prevention topics and issues;

     

    Obtains clinical consultation regarding substance use disorder prevention supportive services when appropriate;

     

    Refers substance use disorder prevention service participants to appropriate community resources when appropriate;

     

    Participates on task forces and committees in order to advocate and develop effective prevention approaches to substance use disorder;

     

    Consults with schools, community and business leaders in order to assist in the design and implementation of prevention plans;

     

    Consults with supervisor in order to discuss problems and issues entailing recommendations for changes to the program;

     

    Prepares reports, including monthly activity, newly available services, and research summaries;

     

    Plans, coordinates, and conducts workshops, seminars, and training sessions for interested community and target groups;

     

    May need to communicate with individuals who have limited English language skills;

     

    May be assigned to serve as a member of an Incident Command System (ICS) Team, or a similar public health response team which may include the conduct of operations on a 24/7 basis at remote locations. May serve as a department and/or community incident commander or on the incident command team.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Possession of valid State of Ohiocertification by the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board as a Registered Applicant. (Certification as an Ohio Certified Prevention Specialist Assistant, Ohio Certified Prevention Specialist, or Ohio Certified Prevention Consultant must be obtained within thirteen (13) months.)

    OR

    Possession of valid State of Ohio certification by the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board as an Ohio Certified Prevention Specialist Assistant, Ohio Certified Prevention Specialist, or Ohio Certified Prevention Consultant.

    OR

    Possession of valid State of Ohio licensure by the Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage & Family Therapist Board as a Licensed Social Worker, or Licensed Independent Social WorkerANDone (1) year of licensed or internship experience providing substance use disorder prevention services.

    OR

    Possession of valid certification by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing as a Certified Health Education SpecialistANDone (1) year of licensed or internship experience providing substance use disorder prevention services.

    OR

    Possession of valid licensure by the Ohio Department of Education as a School CounselorANDone (1) year of licensed or internship experience providing substance use disorder prevention services.

    OR

    Possession of valid State of Ohio licensure as a Registered Nurse, Certified Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Psychologist, or PhysicianANDone (1) year of licensed or internship experience providing substance use disorder prevention services.

     

    Possession of a valid driver’s license.
