    Position Description

    TheDepartment of Counseling, Leadership, Adult Education, and School Psychology ( CLAS ) (https://www.txst.edu/clas.html) in the College of Education at Texas State University, a Hispanic-Serving Institution ( HSI ) located in San Marcos, Texas, invites applications for anAssociate Professor of Educational and Community Leadershipbeginning August 2026. This position involves teaching, research, service, and leadership in our vibrant master’s and doctoral programs in Central Texas.

     

    Position:This position also includes serving as Director of the PhD in Educational and Community Leadership program at the Round Rock Campus ( RRC ). The successful candidate will be headquartered at RRC and will lead the PhD program, including student recruitment and district partnerships to maintain robust enrollment. Teaching may be assigned at either campus based on program needs, and periodic travel to the San Marcos campus is required for department, college, and university events and meetings. This position involves teaching graduate-level courses in educational leadership, particularly in quantitative research methods; maintaining an active and productive research agenda with national and international visibility; mentoring doctoral students and supervising dissertations; seeking external funding to support research and student development; and providing service to the program, department, college, university, and the broader educational leadership profession. The role also includes administrative leadership of the doctoral program, with responsibility for student recruitment, advising, school district engagement, and overall program vitality.

     

    Program:The Educational and Community Leadership ( EDCL ) program prepares equity-focused leaders in K–12 and community-based contexts. The program emphasizes culturally responsive leadership, research-informed practice, and advocacy for justice in education. This position will include teaching core courses in educational leadership and research methodology.

     

    Department:The CLAS Department serves approximately 975 students seeking undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees in Professional Counseling ( COUN ), Educational and Community Leadership ( EDCL ), Adult, Professional, and Community Education ( APCE ), School Psychology ( SPSY ), Student Affairs in Higher Education ( SAHE ), and Integrated Studies ( INTS ). The CLAS Department provides high quality undergraduate and graduate education to promote significant transformational changes in communities, schools, organizations, and institutions locally and globally. Guided by expert faculty who are deeply engaged in innovative research and dedicated to student success, CLAS students grow into leaders and changemakers in schools, communities, and organizations across Texas and beyond.     Required Qualifications

    Required qualifications for Associate Professor rank:

    + An earned doctorate in Educational Leadership, Educational Administration, or closely related field.

    + A documented record of sustained research and publication at the national and/or international levels

    + A documented record of securing external funding to support research or program development

    + A demonstrated record of excellence in graduate-level teaching, including experience teaching doctoral-level courses

    + Demonstrated experience mentoring and supervising doctoral students through to completion

    + A strong and consistent record of service and academic leadership at the program, department, or institutional level

    + Experience in educational leadership preparation and/or prior leadership roles in K–12 settings (e.g., principal, district administrator).

     

    The applicant will receive the appropriate rank and title based on university and department established standards, inclusive of a recommendation by the department’s Personnel Committee.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Preferred qualifications for Associate Professor rank:

    + Experience teaching core courses in an Educational Leadership or Educational Administration program, particularly in the areas of quantitative research methods, leadership theory, and organizational analysis

    + Experience supervising and mentoring doctoral students through dissertation completion

    + Demonstrated success in building and sustaining district and community partnerships

    + Experience serving in academic leadership roles such as program coordinator, department committee chair, or similar

    + Experience as a K–12 school or district leader at the level of principal or higher
