    Position Information

    We believe that the greatest lever to student success is a strong teacher in every classroom. Our building is full of amazing students and teachers who work tirelessly for the good of their students. Aug Prep is looking for a College & Career Teacher/Advisor who loves Jesus, loves kids, and possesses a strong ability to connect students to resources and opportunities that promote pursuit of, and persistence through, best-fit postsecondary pathways. The College & Career Teacher/Advisor leads Senior Seminar, a year-long course that engages students in topics such as: the intersection of interests, aptitudes, and a sense of God’s calling (purposeful college and career exploration), postsecondary pathway applications (college, apprenticeship, or military), FAFSA, financial literacy, 21st century communication, scholarship applications, portfolio/interview preparation, and other key life skills.

     

    We are seeking a person who models continuous improvement, lifelong learning, strong moral character, and goes above and beyond to ensure student success. In addition, the College & Career Teacher/Advisor serves as a model of mature Christian faith and demonstrates the values of Aug Prep on a daily basis. This is a full-time, year-round teaching and advising position.

    Reporting structures:

    The College & Career Teacher/Advisor will report directly to the Assistant Director of College and Career.

     

    A St. Augustine Preparatory Academy College & Career Teacher/Advisor will:

     

    Instruction & Curriculum Development

     

    + Teach critical life skills and college knowledge to all 12th-grade students utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board and other appropriate learning activities.

    + Provide timely and specific feedback to students on both formative and summative assessments and projects.

    + Use academic data to modify both whole and small-group instruction in order to best meet the needs of their students

    + Continuously refine the college and career readiness curriculum and plan key events to support classroom instruction.

    + Work in tandem with faculty and administration to ensure that Senior Seminar is aligned to the school’s larger strategic/school plan.

     

    Advising

     

    + Create a playbook for the assigned caseload of students that specifically addresses best-fit options, scholarship/financial aid plans, academic and extra-curricular goals/activities, and service goals.

    + Facilitate quarterly 1:1 advising meetings with every senior.

    + Identify resources for college going experiences (summer programs, college bridge, internships, and participation in other programs like Upward Bound).

    + Build a network of college and community organizations that know our graduates’ abilities and value.

    + Identify resources for college financing including Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment credit options, scholarships (academic, athletic, community service), etc.

    + Support and advise families in the decision making process for post-secondary education, college application/matriculation processes, admission standards including entrance exams, possible majors of study and college freshman course selection.

    + Ensure timely student submission of all application materials to appropriate post-secondary entities (i.e.: Common Application, Letters of Recommendation, Financial Waivers, etc.)

     

    Coordinating and Communicating

     

    + Coordinate all efforts with faculty and administration.

    + Plan, organize and facilitate college fairs, tours and summer ‘college going’ activities as well as organize and lead visits from post-secondary education entities on campus.

    + Create progress reports for faculty, administration, and parents

    + Maintain positive and productive relationships, focused on collective problem-solving processes in order to create, support, and sustain an environment conducive to optimal learning.

     

    Data Management

     

    + Use platforms including SchooLinks© and Schoology© to track and maintain individual student academic, college exploration, application and acceptance, and scholarship and financial aid data.

    + Monitor each student’s progress toward graduation and individual post-secondary goals

    + Regular report on student goals, college and career readiness indicators, and college acceptances.

    + Analyze transcript and college acceptance data to provide information on general trends, areas of focus, and school-wide ‘wins’ to best advise students, teachers, and school leaders.

    Required Qualifications:

    + A belief in the ability of every child and a commitment to ensure excellence for each student

    + Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s degree in Career/College Counseling or Education a plus)

    + Wisconsin Certification PI 34 is desirable, but not required

    + Effective oral and written communication skills - bilingual in Spanish preferred

    + Experience advising high-need high school-age students and their families preferred

    + Team player committed to the St. Augustine Preparatory mission and model

    + Participating member in a local Church

    + Lastly and most important, the candidate must demonstrate and possess the highest integrity and be able to live the values, beliefs, and culture of St. Augustine Prep
