    Position Summary

    The Health Colleges Research Services office provides pre-award gran t support for three Health Colleges at Michigan State University: Human Medicine, Osteopathic Medicine, and Nursing with faculty located throughout the state of Michigan. We offer a supportive and flexible work environment focused on work-life balance, while maintaining a complex workload under sponsor driven deadlines. We are recruiting an individual t o fulfill the role of Research Administrator I within our team.

     

    General job functions will include independently supporting investigators with basic grant applications, budget and justification development and proposal assembly and reviews; Coordinating with various university colleges, departments, and staff to ensure a timely proposal sub mission process while securing appropriate approvals; Monitoring contract execution with the Office of Sponsored Programs through account setup and activation; Serving as liaison between sponsor/funding source and research team as necessary; Organizing and maintaining electronic rese arch records; Assisting leadership in the training of researchers, faculty and administrators on grant submissions clarifying roles and correct research process, and application of appropriate regulations; Supporting other research process administrators in reviewing applications for compliance with regulations; Participation in required training and professional development opportunities in the field of research administration; and other projects as assigned.

     

    Qualified candidates will be highly organized and self-motivated as well as able to balance multiple tasks and deliver quality analysis within sponsor deadlines. Individuals will be expected to build rapport with faculty, departmental staff, and central pre-award, post-award, and compliance offices; have a strong sense of ownership and accountability for their workload; and exercise excellent independent judgment. Work location for the position is flexible.

     

    Occasional after normal business hours as well as weekend administrative, education, and training events may be required.

    Minimum Requirements

    The job requires: knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Business Administration, Finance, or a research-related field; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in research administration in one or more of the research process areas of pre- or post-award processes, such as regulatory administration; experience in word processing, spreadsheet and database software; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. The jo b also requires: completion of Essentials of Research Administration (MSU certificate) or equivalent within one year of hire.

    Desired Qualifications

    Completion of NCURA SPA I & II training; experience in developing proposals for research projects, preferably in an academic environment; extensive experience with Microsoft Software Suite; experience in database management and data analysis; a self-starter whose strengths inc lude creative thinking and problem solving, teamwork, and ability to work on several projects simultaneously in a high-volume, deadline-oriented environment; experience in interpreting federal agency policies, including those of NIH, NSF, and DOD; knowledge of Kuali Research Administration, ASSIST, and Grants.gov application processing; knowledge of University policies and procedures.
