Kingsborough Community College was founded in 1963 and is one of 23 campuses of the City University of New York (CUNY) system and offers liberal arts education, as well as career training programs. Kingsborough Community College is seeking an Academic Advisor to support the ASAP program and our Flex Bridge to ASAP initiative. Students participating in the Flex Bridge to ASAP initiative are jointly enrolled in ASAP and KCC’s Flex Program. They are part-time students enrolled in online degree programs and have earned some college credit.
The Academic ASAP Advisor will report to the Director of the Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP) or his/her Designee. The work schedule will be Monday through Friday – two (2) days per week from 10:30am-6:30pm and three (3) days per week from 9am-5pm. Additional Evenings and Weekends as needed.
ASAP at Kingsborough serves approximately 2000 students across most majors. Consisting of nearly 30 full-time and approximately 10 part-time staff members, it is a comprehensive service area that strategically interacts with areas across the campus to ensure student momentum toward degree completion and preparation for success post-graduation.
The Academic ASAP Student Advisor, through a holistic and intrusive advisement approach:
+ Manages a caseload of approximately 150 students from program entrance through graduation ensuring academic, personal and professional growth and development, with the goal of graduating at least 50% of students within three years.
+ Supports students, in collaboration with program leadership, faculty and staff, to promote the planning of intentional academic, transfer, and career pathways.
+ Provides proactive outreach to a cohort of students regarding college procedures and policies, including enrollment, academic advising, and academic standing.
+ Coach and support students to make appropriate academic, career, and transfer decisions and connect students to appropriate resources to remove barriers and promote academic persistence and success.
+ Support prospective students by attending ASAP’s Orientation, Institute, etc. and by providing advising support to incoming students at ASAP’s, FLEX’s and KCC’s advisement events.
+ Use advising technologies such as CUNYfirst, Schedule Builder, Navigate, DegreeWorks, Transfer Explorer, and other emerging technology/software to support and monitor students’ academic progress to degree completion
+ Facilitate Freshman Seminar and additional ASAP Seminars to support students’ transition to the program and college.
+ Plan and facilitate in conjunction with ASAP Associate Directors and FLEX Online Program staff, student engagement events and activities such as workshops, open houses etc. to engage and build community amongst cohort of students.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in an appropriate discipline and four years related experience.
The preferred candidate will have:
- Strong understanding of the needs and challenges facing students from diverse urban backgrounds
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, within the department and with faculty and other administrators
- Strong organization, project management, communication, and facilitation skills
- Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records of student activities
- Computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, and aptitude to learn new systems as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, Educational Administration, Educational Psychology and/or Social Work may be substituted for 2 years’ experience. The ideal candidate will have:

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP) helps students earn their college degree as quickly as possible, by removing the financial, academic, and personal obstacles that many students confront. Key ASAP program features include a consolidated block schedule, cohorts by major, required full-time study and comprehensive advisement and career development services. The ASAP Advisor is a member of an integrated College team providing individual academic, career and related support to an assigned group of college students as they progress through the program.
- Delivers comprehensive advisement support services to an assigned group of students through degree completion
- Conducts workshops and group advisement on topics of relevance and interest
- Reviews student progress and tracks student use of academic support services
- Conducts regular outreach to faculty and other college staff as needed to support student success
- Maintains accurate tracking data and notes for each assigned student, recommending appropriate referrals and opportunity programs
- Supports annual recruitment of students
- Organizes periodic special events and programs for students, faculty and staff
- Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
$56,447 to $68,004
CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will be adjusted by 6.09% with additional increases of 3.25% effective 9/1/2025 and 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
