Shift: 8am - 4:30pm

Emory Medical Laboratory's mission is to transform health and healing by providing high quality, cost-effective, innovative laboratory services which enhance patient health. We're seeking a **Histotechnologist I** who will support Emory Healthcare’s mission of clinical care, education, and research by demonstrating the core values of excellence, caring, and integrity. This individual:

+ Performs routine or complex histologic procedures to assist physicians in diagnosis and treatment while upholding the values of the organization.

+ May accession tissue specimens; prepares routine specimens for fixation in automatic processors.

+ Embeds and sections specimens using a microtome.

+ Affixes tissue to slides, stains, cover slips, and labels slides.

+ Maintains a reference system of control blocks and slides for use in special studies.

+ Prepares fixative and staining solutions according to established laboratory procedures.

+ May perform frozen section microtomy.

+ Troubleshoots equipment issues, performs minor repairs, adjustments, or calibrations according to equipment service literature.

+ Assists with monitoring and maintaining inventories of laboratory supplies and chemicals.

+ Performs and participates in the review and reporting of quality control activities in the laboratory.

+ Assists in developing, implementing and revising histologic policies and procedures.

+ Evaluates reliability of current methodologies; recommends changes to improve current practices.

+ Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

+ High School diploma.

+ Certification as HT (ASCP) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, or HT (ASCP)-by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists with no experience required.

+ Certification must be obtained within 18 months of employment.
