    Summary This position is located in the Health Administration Service (HAS), Eligibility Section, under the direct supervision of the Eligibility Supervisor. The purpose of the position is to serve as a Program Assistant (PSA), also known as an enrollment and eligibility advisor in (HAS). The incumbent is responsible for a wide range of assignments and provides administrative support to the Section, and the cost recovery aspects of this position have a direct impact on the reimbursement of the facility. Responsibilities Duties to include but not limited to: Collect and enter Data into computerized system. Greet and refer visitors, patients/veterans and other staff. Process incoming forms, records, or other documents. Work independently without specific instruction. Carry out routine assignments independently. Incumbent reviews and cancels necessary appointments and sends notifications to providers so consults can be reviewed and medication refills can be cancelled Incumbent has knowledge of all computer menus and applications relating to processing death certificates and determining legal entitlement of veterans to benefits. As an enrollment advisor, the incumbent must be able to work under considerable pressure and plan workload without halting or interrupting the operation as a whole by showing initiative in completing priority tasks; also have the ability to work rapidly with a high degree of accuracy, be dependable and use good judgement, while effectively and properly analyzing and evaluating all situations to ensure that the veteran and family's welfare is always protected Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/14/2025. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS 06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS 05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS 05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: experience where you were responsible for providing administrative support; collecting, compiling and tracking data and information; processing documents and reports; establishing, updating and maintaining office files and records; performing automation duties using such software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, electronic mail, desktop publishing, calendar, database and/or graphics; answering telephones, referring visitors, and providing information. There is no educational substitution at this level Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
