    Job Summary and Qualifications

     

    Under the general supervision of the Supervisor, Central Sterile Processing, cleans, sorts inspects, assembles instruments for sterilization. Maintains stock of replacement instruments and replaces any damaged or broken instruments as needed. Assists with cleaning and decontamination as time permits.

    What you will do in this role:

    + Under the general supervision of the Supervisor, Central Sterile Processing, sports, screens, assembles, instrument sets and trays for sterilization. Use knowledge of specific trays and sets to ensure that all trays are complete and instruments are in good repair before assembling for sterilization.

    + Uses knowledge of the principles and methods of sterilization to be sure that all trays are assembled in such a way to allow sterilization to occur.

    + Organizes work area to provide for the most efficient workflow.

    + Maintains stock of replacement instruments and recommends reorder as needed to support tray assembly.

    + Seeks input before making any changes or substitutions in instrument sets.

    + Applies basic knowledge of infection control and aseptic technique principles in the cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization process.

    + Maintains current knowledge of specialized instruments and other equipment used in surgery. Is proactive in keeping up-to-date on instrumentation and supplies used by surgery.

    + Based on knowledge of the principles and methods of sterilization insures that all sterilized items are properly packaged and items are transported and stored properly after sterilization.

    + Appropriate sterilization methods are used to prevent damage to instruments and equipment. Sterilizers are used correctly to minimize exposure hazard to meet the parameters for sterility.

    + 1Utilizes appropriate body mechanics to move and lift instruments, supplies, etc. to prevent musculoskeletal injuries to self and others.

    + Utilizes all cleaning products according to guidelines to provide appropriate cleaning and disinfection of equipment while preventing exposure to chemicals.

    + Restocks area as needed and restocks implant trays when necessary.

    + Wears appropriate protective gear (PPE) per blood borne pathogen/fluid exposure policies.

    + Coordinates with the Supervisor, Central Sterile Processing, and OR Director, to ensure that trays are complete and ready for use as needed. Assists in updating trays as physician preference cards change.

    + Utilizes communication skills to establish and maintain a good, cooperative working relationship with surgery.

    What qualifications you will need:

    + State Registration Pharmacy Technician

    + Pharmacy Technician - IV Certified
