    Summary Associate Director for Education & Evaluation (AD/EE), Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Care (GRECC) translates age-related knowledge base to design educational training programs for staff, residents, health professional trainees, fellows, medical students and other VA employees. Incumbent utilizes state-of-the-art research findings for developing program initiatives covering geriatrics/gerontology health care while also treating patients in area of expertise on a regular basis. Responsibilities The AD/EE position is highly collaborative and requires working closely with the Associate Director/Research (AD/R), Associate Director/Clinical (AD/C), Fellow Service Discipline leadership and academic affiliates. Incumbent develops cohesive education and evaluation program/strategies designed cover geriatrics and gerontology-focused clinical opportunities for GRECC assigned trainees, geriatric, hospice and palliative fellows, inter-professional specialty care learners and other medical students working in directed programs. AD/EE coordinates, leads, develops and evaluates aging-related educational programs to improve knowledge and skills of trainees, fellows, and VA employees locally, regionally, and nationally. You will develop multidisciplinary geriatric clinical and didactic curriculum for the VAMC, GRECC and trainees consisting of physicians, nurses, and allied health workers such as social workers, psychologists, and therapists. Duties of the position include but are not limited to; Identify, design, implement and manage support mechanisms to underwrite GRECC educational programs. Collaborate with the AD/C to institute and conduct evaluation strategies targeting clinical demonstration programs, complete monthly/annual reports, recruit and retain staff, and complete administrative programs/functions including Geriatrics & Gerontology Advisory Committee (GGAC) site visits. Collaborate with the facility's Designated Learning Officer (DLO), Education Service leadership, and Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) academic affiliates and other federal/non-federal programs to leverage resources to support program educational strategies that serve shared interests. Serve on appropriate local, VISN, and specialized national-level committees focused on supporting locally-developed geriatric and aging educational programs. Serve as an ex officio member for the Geriatric Advisory Sub-committee (GAS) at the discretion of the GRECC Director and Advisory Sub-committee Chair. Education/Mentoring - Incumbent of this position will collaborate with the ACOS for Education regarding associated health trainees and various VA Fellowship programs to ensure each year offers contingency planning for a suitable number and mix of specialized trainees. The AD/EE will establish, with a representative of each associated health discipline target training parameters, establish division of responsibilities for geriatric rotation design and oversight, provide goals and outcomes for associated health trainees GRECC-related experiences. Ensure trainee clinical rotation capability for specialty programs to include home and palliative care, community living centers or nursing homes, Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM), geriatric primary care, GRECC clinical demonstration activities, and other geriatrics and extended care programs, inpatient geropsychiatry, neuropsychiatry, and rehabilitation settings to serve aging Veterans. Presentations - Incumbent of this position will participate in and oversee the creation, presentation and evaluation of staff/trainee education and continuing education activities. These should be GRECC-sponsored and designed to provide a range of mechanisms for disseminating new and established geriatric/aging knowledgebase to host VA medical care professionals and other provider staff located at VA medical facilities within the host VISN, VA as well as nationally. Educational activities include, but not be limited to, journal clubs, grand rounds, case conferences, theme or multi-theme-based in-person classes and conferences, video and audio teleconferences, content on demand (CD-ROM), internet-based desktop educational modules), printed materials (information monographs, newsletters, etc.). Must pass pre-employment physical examination. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). Due to the nature of this position and Service requirements, current/past/upcoming Health Professions Trainees (HPTs) will not be considered for this position. Only current VISN 17 employees will be considered for this position at this time. Qualifications To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Education Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, or Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. [If the applicant does not claim an ECFMG certificate, facility officials must still confirm that the medical school meets (or met) ECFMG eligibility requirements for the year the candidate graduated.] NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities.
