    Join our world-class regulatory compliance team focused on developing and ensuring safety standards for industrial robotics, autonomous systems, and industrial automation. As a Regulatory Compliance Engineer, you will evaluate products against key industrial robot, autonomous robot, and industrial automation safety standards. You will be responsible for conducting compliance testing, developing documentation, and maintaining certifications for both domestic and international markets.

     

    Your role involves working with innovative technology while ensuring adherence to machine safety, functional safety, product safety, EMC, and wireless compliance standards. You will collaborate across teams to verify compliance with industrial machinery regulations and help shape the future of automation at Amazon.

    The ideal candidate should demonstrate:

    • Experience with industrial robot safety standards and autonomous mobile robot regulations

    • Knowledge of functional safety systems and electrical/electronic safety requirements

    • Ability to evaluate products against national and international safety/compliance standards and obtain necessary certifications

    • Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with engineering teams on compliance initiatives

     

    Up to 30% travel

    Key job responsibilities

    • Build and maintain defensible positions to ensure Amazon Robotics products meet safety, EMC, and wireless compliance requirements across all deployment regions

    • Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Safety, Solutions, Legal, Deployment Engineering, Product Line Management, Manufacturing and other teams to develop and execute compliance strategies

    • Manage complex compliance programs by coordinating timelines and owners across teams, with attention to details and deadlines

    • Implement and document effective data-driven processes, systems and standard operating procedures that are reviewed regularly

    • Conduct risk assessments and hazard analysis to determine risk reduction measures and safety integrity level requirements for hardware products

    • Interface with operations and global safety teams regarding robotics safety standards

    • Work with third-party agencies and test labs for formal validation processes and certification

    • Monitor and communicate impacts of regulatory and legislative changes affecting the business

    • Support development of in-house test and evaluation capabilities

    About the team

    The Amazon Robotics Compliance team is made of professionals who specialize in machine safety, electrical product safety, laser safety, EMC/EMI compliance, wireless compliance, and materials compliance. We also have a team of professionals that supports our in house A2LA (ISO 17025) accredited EMC labs at both our BOS12 and BOS27 locations, comprised of 10M, 5M, and 3M anechoic chambers, and multiple screen rooms.

    Basic Qualifications

    - 4+ years compliance experience supporting development of industrial robot(s)/Robot applications (or equivalent)

     

    - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or similar field.

    Preferred Qualifications

    - Certified Machine Safety Expert (CMSE) or equivalent

    - Experience in risk management and performing task based risk assessments

    - Knowledge of national and international Standards, Regulations, and EU directives/regulations related to machinery safety, functional safety, product safety, and risk assessments (e.g., ISO 10218-2, UL 1740, UL 508, IEC 61508, IEC 62061, ISO 13849-1, NFPA 79, IEC 60204-1 and ISO 12100)

     

    - Experience evaluating products employing Electro Sensitive Protective Equipment (ESPE), Safety Related Sensors (SRS), and Safety Related Sensor Systems (SRSS) (e.g. IEC 61496 series and IEC 62998 series)

     

    - Experience interacting with customers, regulatory agencies, test labs, etc.

     

    - Experience in supporting contract manufacturer with NRTL factory inspections

     

    - Experience in supporting engineering change control processes (Agile)

     

    - Experience in evaluating compliance of 3rd party products

     

    - Knowledge of EMC regulations pertaining to FCC, Industry Canada, EN 61000-6-x, etc.

     

    - Experience in documenting product requirements extracted from industry Safety, EMC and Wireless standards

     

    - Experience supporting Safety, EMC and Wireless certification programs by means of identifying equipment needs, documentation needs, support equipment needs, staging and support of equipment to be tested, debug capabilities, etc.

     

    - Experience with standards development (e.g. ISO, IEC, A3, ANSI, UL, etc.)
