Description We are looking for a diligent and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team in Reading, Pennsylvania. This position focuses on managing accounts payable and payroll functions within a nonprofit higher education setting, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and institutional policies. The role requires exceptional organizational skills, confidentiality, and a thorough understanding of financial systems to contribute to accurate financial operations and reporting.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee the complete accounts payable process, including invoice entry, purchase order matching, approval workflows, and vendor payments.

• Reconcile vendor statements, maintain accurate vendor records, and ensure compliance with tax documentation requirements such as W-9 and 1099 forms.

• Address and resolve invoice discrepancies effectively while communicating proactively with vendors and internal teams.

• Process biweekly payroll with precision, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and institutional regulations.

• Collaborate with HR to manage employee data, salary adjustments, benefit deductions, and tax compliance.

• Conduct reconciliations for payroll-related general ledger accounts, prepare journal entries, and assist with quarterly tax filings.

• Support audit processes by providing documentation and participating in internal control evaluations.

• Perform account reconciliations for key balance sheet accounts, including cash, payroll liabilities, and accounts payable clearing.

• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency in accounts payable, payroll, and general accounting workflows.

• Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and compliance with donor and regulatory guidelines for grants and restricted funds. Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

•Experience in accounts payable and payroll processing

• Proficiency in accounting and payroll systems such as Sage, Banner, Paychex, or Workday.

• Strong understanding of accounting principles and payroll regulations.

• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel for creating reconciliations and financial reports.

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.

• Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and maintain high data integrity.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to providing exceptional customer service.
