Duties Description Duties include but not limited to:• Perform and/or oversee construction supervision and inspection of medium sized, or a medium-sized portion of, large building construction projects to ensure adherence to specifications, contracts and good work standards.• Review field orders, change orders, and all necessary paperwork.• Assist Senior Superintendent and/or Building Construction Engineer on larger construction projects to ensure the contractor’s adherence to plans, specifications and generally accepted construction standards.Operational Needs:• Travel is required (approximately 50%). • Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver’s License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle is required, or otherwise demonstrate the capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job.

Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS)* and applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be considered for this position:Required Experience: Three years of experience** assisting in the management of multi-trade construction projects from inception to completion to include cost estimating, construction planning and scheduling; contract document reading and interpretation, including agreement and conditions, plans and specifications; and construction inspection to ensure compliance with building codes for construction projects.****Applicant degrees in related fields may substitute for experience as follows: • No degree: Three years of required experience. • Associate degree: two years of required experience. • Bachelor’s degree: four years of required experience. • Master’s degree: five years of required experience. • Doctorate degree: six years of required experience.ORApplicants may also be appointed to this position if currently reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title OR are a current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service as an Assistant Superintendent of Construction and are interested in reassignment of the Civil Service Law.NOTE: IN ORDER TO AWARD THE PROPER CREDIT FOR WORK EXPERIENCE, RESUMES MUST INCLUDE MONTH AND YEAR FOR START AND END DATES. IF ANY OF THIS EXPERIENCE IS LESS THAN FULL TIME YOU MUST INDICATE THE AVERAGE NUMBER OF HOURS WORKED PER WEEK.

Additional Comments *There is no examination required for appointment to a NY HELPS position. Candidates hired via NY HELPS will be appointed on a permanent non-competitive basis and will begin a probationary period.At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected that NY HELPS employees will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to take an exam. Employees will then be afforded with all the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State.
