Ballard Community School district is seeking a dedicated full-time paraprofessional to join our Ember Recovery Campus team. Our Ember program is designed to help students rediscover their inner strengths and resilience while providing hope and pathways to success as they navigate life's challenges.

Working in collaboration with Youth and Shelther Services (YSS) youth addiction treament programming, Ballard provides comprehensive educational support as an integral part of the recovery process. Reporting directly to the classroom teacher, the paraprofessional will play a vital role in fostering student academic acheivement and interpersonal development through proactice, evidence-based interventions that emphasize cognitive and problem-solving approaches seamlessly woven into classroom instruction.

Paraprofessionals work approximately 33.5 hours per week. This position is assigned to work 178 student contact days. You will receive 4 paid holidays and will not work during summers or breaks.

Primary Responsibilities:

+ Support teachers in meeting the needs of students in the special education or general education classroom.

+ Support academic instruction with individual and/or small groups of students.

+ Supervise students during other components of the school day.

Compensation:Pay is annualized so you will receive a check in July and August. Minimum hourly base rate is $13.00. Additional compensation is available for related experience and education such as a paraprofessional certificate, AA degree, or BA/BS degree as well as extra compensation based on the level of student assignment.

Benefits:This position includes a district paid individual health plan, $20,000 life insurance policy and long-term disability. Optional dental and vision coverage, flex spending and dependent care accounts are also available. IPERS contributions begin day 1 and paid leave (sick and personal) are provided,

Qualifications:

+ High School diploma or GED required

+ Prefer candidates that meet one of the following prior to employment:

+ Complete 60 credit hours of study at an institution of higher education

+ Obtain an associate's (or higher) degree

+ Paraprofessional certification

+ Paraprofessional experience

+ Teaching Degree

+ Display a basic understanding of the needs of children.

+ Ability to relate effectively to children with different academic and behavioral needs.

+ Display patience and compassion and maintain a caring and helpful relationship with children.

+ Display professional communications skills including active listening, written and oral.

+ Ability to physically lift up to 50 lbs.

+ Ability to bend, lift, sit on floor, run short distances, and assist physically active students.

+ Demonstrate the emotional maturity and stability necessary for the specialized work involved.

+ Demonstrate initiative and the insight to anticipate problem situations and respond accordingly.

+ Ability to take directions, work with minimal supervision and follow policies and practices.
