    *Description*

    SUMMARY:

    • Coordinates and monitors physics and dosimetry daily activities and clinical coverage.

    • Provides support to medical radiation physicist in accurate and precise dose calculation and delivery to adult and geriatric patients, as prescribed by radiation oncologists.

    • Provides support to the radiation oncologist ensuring consistency and appropriateness of techniques and treatment delivery.

    • Supports and supervises Medical Dosimetrists, Trainee Dosimetrists, and Medical Physicist Residents in the performance of their assigned duties and job requirements.

    • Supports and supervises radiotherapy technologists from the simulation to the completion of treatment according to the plan approved by the radiation oncologist and physicist.

    • Develops the patient’s treatment plan in accordance with national and local standards, recommending changes based on variances to standards of practice identified when appropriate.

    • Participates in the development, completion, and review of quality management programs within the department.

    • Provides knowledge and expertise to patients and members of the health care team.

    • Provides training to physicists, radiation oncologists, medical dosimetrists, trainee dosimetrists and radiation technologists, and medical physics residents as needed.

    • Is responsible for performance of quality assurance of the Treatment planning system according to national guidelines and NY regulations.

    • Demonstrates regard for the dignity and respect of all patients, family members, visitors and hospital personnel as defined in the philosophy of Vassar Brothers Hospital.

    • Promotes a safe and efficient working environment by adhering to hospital and department policies and procedures.

    • Serves in support of the Program Directors for Medical Physics Residency.

    • Performs other duties as specified.

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education: Graduate of any AMA approved school of dosimetry or AMA approved school of radiation oncology technology. Associate’s degree or higher preferred. Must be eligible to be certified by the MDCB.

    Experience: Requires a minimum of five years of clinical experience in the field of Medical Dosimetry

    License: Medical Dosimetry Board Certification (MDCB) or eligibility is mandatory. Board-eligible applicants are to attain certification within 2 years of employment.

     

    Proven competency through the annual performance appraisal process, organizational and departmental competencies, as well maintenance of Medical Dosimetry Board Certification is mandatory.

    PHYSICAL AND MENTAL FACTORS:

    Physical: Occasionally requires light physical effort as in periods of standing, prolonged sitting, eyestrain, (greater than 50% of the time). Periodic arm and shoulder strain from computer mouse and keyboard work (greater than 50% of the time).

     

    Mental: Position may impose home and social life inconveniences, even though predictable on most occasions, regular volume of work fluctuates often imposing strain on a routine basis. Work requires frequent substantive involvement in stressful situation causing considerable strain routinely.

     

    Salary Range: $59.01 - $109.58 Hourly
