    Job Title: Lead Substation EngineerJob Description

     

    We are seeking a Lead Substation Engineer to join our expanding power delivery team based in Tampa, Florida. You will play a critical role in supporting projects with multiple utilities across the United States. This position involves utilizing a variety of industry-standard, in-house, and client-specific software applications to develop engineering construction packages.

    Responsibilities

    + Conduct substation system analysis and perform design calculations to ensure the safety and performance of electrical substations.

    + Perform assessments of substation installations and existing infrastructure.

    + Design and develop standard details, drawings, specifications, and transmission/substation facilities, structures, and foundations.

    + Support the development and review of substation design drawings, specifications, and construction documents.

    + Stay up-to-date with industry standards, regulations, and best practices for electrical substations.

    + Collaborate with other engineers, clients, and contractors to ensure project goals are met.

    + Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and other team members as needed.

    + Assist in the preparation of progress reports, compliance documentation, and record-keeping of transmission and substation technical documents and drawings.

    + Prepare contract documents and specifications, conduct evaluation of bid proposals, and prepare purchase requisitions.

    Essential Skills

    + Bachelor of Science in Engineering (ABET-Accredited).

    + 5+ years of experience in Substation Physical Design & Engineering in the electric utility industry.

    + Engineer in Training Certificate (EIT) preferred.

    + Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

    + Strong understanding of substation design, construction, and commissioning processes.

    + Familiarity with industry standards, codes, and regulatory requirements.

    + Ability to apply engineering principles to solve complex technical problems.

    + Proficient in AutoCAD, grading software, Inventor, and Microsoft Office Suite.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Ability to obtain a professional engineer license is a plus.

    + Willingness to travel for on-site work responsibilities involving occasional overnight travel to meet with clients, vendors, and equipment suppliers.

    Work Environment

    This role primarily involves working in an office setting, although remote work is an option. The company emphasizes work-life balance, allowing for a flexible schedule around core hours, with some employees working every other Friday off (9/80 schedule). The work environment is supportive of professional growth, with many leaders holding PE licenses. The company has seen significant growth, expanding from 8 to 70 employees in four years. Benefits include three weeks of vacation, holiday pay (9 + 1 floating), 401K match, healthcare coverage at 50%, profit sharing, and an incentive program based on individual performance.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $46.00 - $56.00/hr.
