    General Description

    NYC Department of Education Liaison

     

    + Serve as Brooklyn College Teaching Fellows Field Consultant liaison with NYCPS Office of Teacher Recruitment and Quality

    + Interview and hire qualified consultants to observe and engage teachers in the field planning process, generally experienced educators

    + Train newly assigned Field Consultants

    + Assign Field Consultants to mentor Teaching Fellows in NYCPS schools (requires knowledge of school and district locations in all five boroughs of NYC)

    + Acting as a consultant to Field Consultants, school administrators and Teaching Fellows in resolving mentee practicum difficulties

    + Review the eight yearly reports written by our field consultants who visit Fellows as part of their alternative certification requirement (8 X 330 = 2640)

    + Work with the Field Consultants to submit the Monthly/Quarterly Field Development Index (FDI) reports to NYCPS TRQ

    + Coordinate the payroll and payment for all Field Consultants

    + Help develop yearly goals for our Teaching Fellows Program for submission to and review by the NYCPS Office of Teacher Recruitment and Quality

    + Coordinate quarterly data collection for the NYCPS (FDI Survey of Teaching Fellows Performance)

    + Assist in Approving Students' school assignments for Fall Job offers

    + Provides administrative support and guidance to teachers in the field

     

    Brooklyn College/School of Education Liaison

     

    + Work with Program Coordinators/Faculty to develop curricular strands appropriate for in-service teachers

    + Familiarity with US Prep developed POP Cycle: Pre-Conference Meeting, Observed Lesson Delivery, Post-Conference Meeting, developed as a way to improve goal making and in service teaching support

    + Coordinate the collection of field documents for all Teaching Fellows

    + Schedule bi-annual coaching training to support Field Consultants in helping their mentee teachers

    + Enter final grades (Summative Reports) for all Teaching Fellows

    + Attend meetings with NYCPS/TF as necessary

     

    Planning and Scheduling

     

    + Work with School of Education departments to adapt and implement the faculty developed Teacher Performance Assessment (TPA) for Teaching Fellows in each subject area. Recent areas include: Special Education, Bilingual Education

    + Hire key Field Consultants to anonymously evaluate submitted TPAs and critique student work

    + Analyze teacher performance, curricula, and other educational data to ensure they meet the correct goals

    + Maintain clear and consistent communication with all stakeholders, including teachers, administrators, and field placement agencies

     

    Student Progress and Support

     

    + Troubleshoot student and school emergencies in the schools

    + Serve as a resource for NYCPS Teachers and Administration

    + Hold Opening Day Orientation with all new Teaching Fellows

     

    Administrative and Assessment

     

    + Collaborate with TF Program Manager in collecting necessary assessments for NYCPS and BC SOE

    + Other duties as assigned

    Other Duties

    The Field Consultant Coordinator is currently a 10 month per year position with the possibility of extending to 12

    Qualifications

    Minimum:

    + Master’s Degree in Education or related field and 10 years of experience

    + Knowledge of Microsoft TEAMS

    Preferred:

    + Extensive experience as an educator/administrator in New York City Public Schools

    + Former experience as a New York City Teaching Fellow or working with other Alternative Certification Programs
