Grant Thornton is seeking a Director of Tax Operations to join the team in Downers Grove, IL.
Position Summary:
Working in close collaboration with firm leadership, the Director – Tax Operations will need to be a dynamic and experienced leader. This position will be responsible for establishing, implementing and maintaining our global firm’s overarching tax strategies and policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Evaluate current state and develop a strategy along with other key strategic business leaders relative to the overall approach to tax operations for the firm as well as the firm’s owners.
+ Drive quality and seamless delivery through all aspects of the reporting and compliance process (e.g., federal, state/local, international, indirect, partnership K-1 process, etc.).
+ Support the leadership with effective communication efforts to and on behalf of firm owners, (both individually and as a group), on relevant federal and state tax matters).
+ Consult with firm leadership to develop and support tax positions reported in the firm’s US GAAP financial statements.
+ Proactively engage business leaders and other subject matter experts with the firm to assess and manage key risks and opportunities.
+ Manage tax authority proceedings including development of responses to inquiries from the IRS and other tax authorities.
+ Provide on-the-ground, day-to-day leadership for the Tax Team and drive efficiencies and transformation through a leader-led technology enablement and process transformation.
+ Support the firm’s efforts to identify, hire, develop and retain top tax function talent to support the overall firm objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Masters in Tax / Accounting preferred.
+ CPA or JD/active law license required, LLM a plus.
+ 10+ years of strategic tax experience with a large accounting firm, law firm, or corporate tax department of a multinational company.
+ Comprehensive knowledge of US federal, state and international tax requirements for partnerships and corporations.
+ Strong knowledge of US GAAP reporting requirements.
+ Ability to support, collaborate with and effectively communicate across the entire spectrum of leadership roles and all levels of leadership (e.g., Partnership Board, C-Suite, Business Unit Leaders, etc.)
+ Recognized and proven experience leading a team of diverse professionals with emphasis on the identification and development of top talent
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills
+ Ability to travel on short notice and work additional hours as necessary.
The base salary range for this position in the firm's Downers Grove, IL office is between $184,000 and $276,000 per year.

+ Benefits for internship positions: Grant Thornton interns are eligible to participate in the firm’s medical, dental and vision insurance programs and the firm’s employee assistance program. Interns also receive a minimum of 72 hours of paid sick leave and are paid for firm holidays that fall within their internship period.
