    This position serves as the Engineer for the East Bank Project Engineer's office, assisting the Engineer 6 in construction related activities and consulting with the Project Engineer about any and all activities to have construction projects completed according to plans, contract and specifications.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.

    NOTE:

    This is a temporary position to be utilized while the incumbent is securing a Louisiana Engineer Intern certificate. Permanent status shall be denied to incumbents occupying this position.

    Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificates are issued by the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board. Licensing requirements may be viewed at www.lapels.com.

    Job Duties and Other Information

    Job Duties:

    + Assists the Engineer 6 DOTD in directing and supervising highway and bridge construction, survey activities, contract administration, and associated functions of a construction gang. Functionally supervises employees engaged in construction work with DOTD. Work assignments include monitoring inspection techniques for desired results. Instructs and train new employees as needed.

    + Participates in preconstruction conferences with engineers and contractors to discuss construction scheduling, method of construction and potential problems. Maintains field records and calculates quantities of partial and final estimates on multimillion dollar projects. Devises and implements plan changes within these projects. Reviews plans before and during construction.

    + Supervise and coordinate all sampling and testing to insure the quality and quantity of materials meets the standards specified in the plans and contract and prepare the 2059. Prepare monthly estimates for pay. Prepare and supervise the preparation of field books and final acceptance documentation.

    + Performs and other duties assigned by supervisors. Maybe required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, Emergency/Disaster Support duties.

    As part of Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as an Engineer Intern Applicant, Engineer Intern 1 or 2, Engineer 3, Engineer 4, or Engineer 5 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant. The maximum salary for the Engineer 5 is $126,256. Please refer to the "Job Specifications" tab located at the top of the LA Careers "Current Job Opportunities" page of the Civil Service website for specific information on salary ranges, minimum qualifications and job concepts for each level. Applicants may apply 90 days prior to receipt of your degree, however, the effective date of the appointment cannot be prior to your graduation date.

    Compensation:

    + Engineer Intern Applicant -$24.04/hourly- Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.

    + Engineer Intern 1 - Special Entrance Rate (SER) $26.44/hourly. Possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.

    + Engineer Intern 2 - Special Entrance Rate (SER) $28.29/ hourly. Possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate plus one year of professional engineering experience.

    + Engineer 3 - Special Entrance Rate (SER) $33.39/hourly. Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering.

    + Engineer 4 - Special Entrance Rate (SER) $36.90/hourly. Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus One year of licensed engineering experience OR Five years of professional engineering experience.

    + Engineer 5 - Special Entrance Rate (SER) $39.48/hourly. Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plusTwo years of licensed engineering experience OR Six years of professional engineering experience.
