    Job Description

    The **Senior Director of Business Strategy & Operations** for Gilead Medical Affairs will drive short and long terms department initiatives and annual goals in innovation, improving efficiency, and collaboration. This newly created role will specifically take the lead on driving execution and overseeing successful implementation and execution of Project MAestro initiatives across the MA organization as well as Medical Affairs organization-wide annual goals. The role will report to the Executive Director, Medical Affairs and RSQ Business Strategy & Operations.

    Responsibilities:

    + Structure and execute operational, planning and strategic Medical Affairs initiatives.

    + Facilitate development and implementation of processes to optimize organizational effectiveness.

    + Lead/support communication of organizational strategy and initiatives including the planning, content development and execution.

    + In collaboration with key internal stakeholders develop change management plans associated with cross-functional initiatives and projects within the Medical Affairs organization.

    Skills, Knowledge and Expectations:

    + Strong strategic thinking. Experience and ability to develop and articulate complex strategic issues and ideas (e.g., corporate strategy). Must be able to both verbally articulate a story and have strong PowerPoint skills to develop executive level slide sets.

    + Nimble and agile. Must be able to work on multiple projects with overlapping timelines and meet all deadlines. Needs to be able to quickly digest and prioritize information.

    + Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Experience in executive communications, working with senior leaders to produce high-quality communications materials under tight timelines.

    + Long Term Strategic Planning. Must have experience with either long term strategic planning, innovation planning, or corporate strategy development. Includes development of materials (models, slides) for executive level discussions on these topics. Prior experience participating or leading strategic planning activities.

    + Industry knowledge. Must be adept and knowledgeable about the biotech and biopharma segment. Must know key players, their portfolios, strengths and weaknesses. Must understand key drivers of success in sector and have a point of view on these as it pertains to Gilead. Must be familiar with emerging technologies and strategic themes in industry (digital health, AI)

    + Gilead knowledge. Must understand our portfolio (Clinical Development, and Commercial) as well as historical context of company moves. Must have understanding and knowledge of current Therapeutic Areas.

    Additional Attributes:

    + Ethics, integrity and maturity to work with senior level leaders and comport themselves appropriately

    + Strong team oriented ethos and collaborative style

    + Ability to work cross functionally and understand the motivations of colleagues in other functions

    + Ability to influence across all parts of the organization

    Education and Qualifications:

    + PhD, MD or other graduate-level science background a plus, but not necessary

    + Bachelor’s degree with 15+ years of experience in healthcare strategy or change management communications related roles

    + Preference for experience at top tier agency or consulting firm

     

    The salary range for this position is: $243,100.00 - $314,600.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
