About the Job
The purpose of this position is to ensure all plant operations take place in a safe and efficient manner. Supervises hourly employees in all production process; plans and assigns work; ensures that safety policies and procedures are known and followed by all employees, implements policy and procedures and recommends improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions.
+ Collaborate with other shift supervisors and plant leadership to develop a consistent message before communicating to the union workforce. Work closely with HR to lead, develop, and discipline as needed based on Company policy and CBA.
+ Maintain attendance records for each hourly employee; track absences in master spreadsheet in accordance with policy and CBA, identify policy/CBA non-compliance, instill discipline in coordination with Plant Manager and HR. Tracking and documenting Union Hourly timecards into Workforce Management (WFM) to ensure employees are paid properly.
+ Communicate with supervisors at shift change regarding shift activities, open items, employee matters, etc. Send text/email at shift change to plant leadership regarding the same.
+ Perform routine and regular plant inspections in all work areas (regular workplace, spillage, clean-up, illumination. Perform routine and spot audits on various tasks within the plant. Ensure that production samples are collected, analyzed, and resulting material is directed to the appropriate areas.
+ Facilitate daily and weekly huddle/toolbox/safety talks and safety presentations for the production department. Plan and coordinate non-routine tasks within the plant including outage work.
+ Develop and ensure that specified QCQA procedures are being adhered to
+ Record specific kiln data, quality data, and environmental data into the appropriate spreadsheets. Monitor process parameters to ensure required throughputs and quality levels are met, while ensuring environmental compliance. Develop appropriate kiln operation skills as an emergency fill-in for the kiln operator.
+ Direct plant and process activities in coordination with the Control Room Operator.
+ Review all workplace exams and mobile equipment inspections each shift, follow up with tagging areas, clean-up, hand-over, closure of actions. Create and prioritize work requests using the EAM software, coordinating activities with the maintenance department.
+ Employees are expected to perform other responsibilities as needed.
Required Qualifications
+ Education: High School Diploma required; Technical Degree is preferred.
+ Experience: 3-5 years working in an industrial environment with at least 3 years of supervising others required.
+ Certifications: Prior safety training preferred.
+ Licenses: Must obtain a valid Driver’s License.
+ Knowledge: Must be able to learn and understand all plant processes.
+ Skills: Supervision skills, including developing, mentoring, and when necessary, disciplining hourly employees. Basic computer skills required.
+ Abilities: Must possess a demonstrated ability to lead hourly employees and get results through others. Ability to think ahead and plan over a specific time span and prepare action plans to achieve results. Ability to balance and achieve positive results in the areas of safety, quality, environmental, plant reliability, productivity, cost efficiency, waste reduction, and employee relations in a unionized environment. Ability to manage multiple priorities.
+ Behaviors: Must be a team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills. Able to make independent judgements.
