UPMC Children's Hospital is currently seeking a Full Time Sr. Professional Staff Nurse, BSN to work on our 6E Epilepsy Unit!
The Senior Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse and integral member of the care team, responsible for setting standards and ensuring quality nursing care. The SPSN provides and manages care for patients and families using independent judgment, communication, and collaboration. This leadership role involves partnership, supervision, and maintaining strong relationships with physicians, healthcare providers, and the community to achieve optimal patient outcomes across the continuum of care.
Title and Rate of Pay will be based on Education and Experience
Primary Responsibilities:
+ Educates patients, families, and staff using adult learning principles and supports smooth transitions in care.
+ Mentors students and new team members, fostering continuous learning and an open, supportive environment.
+ Develops patient-centered care plans using critical thinking to address medical, emotional, and social needs.
+ Communicates effectively with the healthcare team to ensure coordinated and high-quality care.
+ Builds strong relationships with patients, families, and colleagues to promote healing and satisfaction.
+ Fosters a respectful, inclusive workplace by demonstrating accountability, cultural awareness, and healthy work-life balance.
+ Leads and supports quality improvement efforts using evidence-based practices and collaboration.
+ Commits to ongoing professional development, shared decision-making, and adapting to change for a better care environment.
+ Minimum 2 years of experience required.
+ BSN preferred.
+ If BSN is held: Master's in a related field may substitute for certification.
+ If a Master's in Nursing or DNP is held, certification is not required.
+ Must complete one professional contribution annually aligned with department, hospital, or system goals, approved by the Unit Director per UPMC’s My Nursing Career Ladder guidelines.
+ Must build and maintain positive, compassionate relationships with all care team members, support staff, departments, patients, and families.
+ Must exhibit exemplary clinical judgment, critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving skills to deliver safe and effective care.
+ Requires physical stamina, mobility, visual and manual dexterity for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and patient positioning.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
+ Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in practicing state.
+ CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
+ Clearances with renewal:
+ 31, 33, 34, & 73
*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
