  • Research Intern - Raman Spectroscopy - onsite

    Sartorius (Marlborough, MA)

    Apply Now

Based at our Marlborough site, in this role you will serve as critical contributor to the development and integration of Raman spectroscopy technologies for characterization of different types of nanoparticles such as extracellular vesicle, lipid nanoparticles and viral vectors. These leading-edge platforms will be utilized in basic research as well as the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. You will be expected to design and execute experiments systematically: analyze and report the results weekly. You will also work closely with internal and external subject matter experts to identify and understand the nature of nascent technologies.

You will be expected to design and execute experiments systematically, analyze and report the results weekly. You will also work closely with internal and external subject matter experts to better optimize and develop reliable Raman based characterization assays.

What you will accomplish together with us

+ Conduct Raman Spectroscopy Experiments: Perform single-particle Raman spectroscopy measurements on a variety of nanoparticle types, including viral vectors, lipid nanoparticles (LNPs), and extracellular vesicles (EVs).

+ Sample Preparation and Handling: Prepare, dilute, and handle nanoparticle samples under sterile and controlled conditions to ensure data quality and consistency.

+ Instrument Operation and Maintenance: Operate and maintain Raman spectroscopy instrumentation, ensuring calibration, troubleshooting, and performance checks are routinely conducted.

+ Method Development and Optimization: Assist in developing and optimizing protocols for single-particle Raman analysis, including improving signal-to-noise ratio and reproducibility.

+ Data Acquisition and Analysis: Acquire and process spectral data using relevant software. Perform baseline correction, normalization, and statistical analysis to extract meaningful information from spectral signatures.

+ Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed experimental records, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), raw data, and analysis results. Contribute to internal reports and presentations.

+ Collaborative Work: Work closely with scientists from Corporate Research and process development services teams to integrate findings and contribute to broader project goals.

+ Literature Review and Learning: Stay updated with recent advancements in nanoparticle characterization, Raman techniques, and related analytical methodologies.

    What will convince us

    Education:

+ PhD candidate (or recent PhD graduate) in Physics, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Nanotechnology, or a related field with formal education and experience with Raman spectroscopy and single particle analysis.

    Experience:

+ Hands-on experience with Raman spectroscopy, ideally in the context of nanoparticle or biomolecular analysis.

+ Solid understanding of nanoparticle systems such as viral vectors, lipid nanoparticles (LNPs), or extracellular vesicles (EVs).

+ Demonstrated experience in spectral data analysis, including baseline correction, normalization, and multivariate/statistical analysis (e.g., PCA, clustering).

+ Strong laboratory skills, including sample preparation, instrument maintenance, and adherence to experimental protocols.

+ Excellent organizational, communication, and documentation skills.

+ Identification with our core values: Sustainability, Openness, Enjoyment

Compensation is up to $30 hr.
