    The Microbiome & Disease Ecology Lab (MiDEL) at NYU is seeking a highly motivated and collaborative Postdoctoral Associate to join our dynamic, interdisciplinary team. Our work explores the role of the vaginal microbiome and placental hormones in shaping pregnancy outcomes, with a global comparative focus on Ghanaian and U.S. cohorts. We use metagenomics, metabolomics, hormonal profiling, and machine learning to identify mechanisms and biomarkers underlying preterm birth and other adverse reproductive outcomes, particularly in underserved populations.

     

    This position is ideal for a candidate with strong interests in reproductive biology, microbiome science, global health equity, and interdisciplinary translational research. The postdoc will contribute to NIH-funded projects examining the intersection of the microbiome, endocrine systems, and maternal health disparities.

     

    In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $xx,xxx- $xx,xxx. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer .

    Key Responsibilities

    + Lead analyses of vaginal microbiome and hormonal datasets (16S, shotgun metagenomics, LC-MS).

    + Conduct statistical modeling and machine learning integration of microbiome and clinical metadata.

    + Co-develop research manuscripts, grant proposals, and public impact materials.

    + Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams in Ghana and across U.S. institutions.

    + Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in the lab.

    + Participate in community engagement and science translation initiatives

    Required:

    + PhD (or equivalent) in biological anthropology, microbiology, epidemiology, reproductive biology, global health, bioinformatics, or related field.

    + Experience with microbiome data analysis (QIIME2, HUMAnN, or similar pipelines).

    + Strong statistical and coding skills (R and/or Python).

    + Demonstrated track record of scientific publication.

    + Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

    Preferred:

    + Experience with LC-MS data, biomarker discovery, or AI-driven modeling.

    + Background in maternal or reproductive health research.

    + Interest in health equity and international collaborations.
