    Job Summary

    Job Summary

    The University of Utah Developmental Assessment Clinic ( UDAC ) provides diagnostic and therapeutic services to toddlers, school-aged children, and adolescents with a range of developmental, medical, and behavioral concerns. Our patient population includes children with neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g., autism spectrum disorder, ADHD ), genetic and medical complexities, speech sound disorders, receptive and expressive language delays, and social communication challenges.

     

    Speech and Language Pathologists work as part of an interdisciplinary team to support early identification, comprehensive evaluation, and family-centered intervention planning. UDAC programs include the Child Development Program, the Neonatal Follow-up Program, and the Heart Center Neurodevelopment Program. Clinics are held at the Primary Children’s Outpatient Services Building in Salt Lake City, Primary Children’s Outpatient Clinic at Lehi, the South Main Clinic in Salt Lake City and through Telehealth. The Speech and Language Pathologist provides evaluation and therapeutic management for patients with speech, language and/or cognitive disorders who are referred to the University Developmental Assessment Center ( UDAC ).

    Responsibilities

    Essential Functions

    + Interdisciplinary evaluation approach to reach appropriate assessment and diagnosis of children with or at risk for developmental disorders.

    + Establish treatment goals and referrals based on the evaluation, reason for the referral and team interaction.

    + Identify and facilitate access to other medical or community resources and follow up, as necessary.

    + Educate the patient and their parents about the goals of the program and on the methods of accomplishing the goals.

    + Provide documentation of patient care according to established criteria.

    + Participate in continuous quality improvement projects.

    + Participate in in-services, medical conferences, staff meetings, continuing education courses, team meetings and other related activities.

     

    Problem Solving

     

    + Complete a comprehensive speech and language evaluation and development goals and treatment plan upon completion of the evaluation.

    + Ability to provide direction to students; identify program needs; develop new areas of activity; and respond to emergency situations.

    + Knowledge of the principles of child life span growth and development.

    + Ability to assess data regarding the patient’s status and provide care as described in the department’s policies and procedures manual.

    + Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Required

    Current licensure to practice as a Speech Pathologist in the State of Utah.

     

    Preferred

     

    Experience in the following areas; dysphagia, stroke, head trauma, diffuse brain pathology, neurologic diseases and disorders, developmental language delay, dysfluency, voice pathology, motor speech disorders, cognitive disorders or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).

    + Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card or obtain one within one month of hire; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.

    + Fluency in Spanish, both oral and written highly preferred.

    + Experience in the following areas: evaluation and treatment of receptive and expressive language disorders, social communication skills, AAC , speech sound disorders.

    + History of working with children.
