Job Summary
The Orrin G. Hatch Center, located in Washington, DC, is seeking a responsible and proactive Resident Assistant to join our team. The Resident Assistant will be responsible for overseeing the well-being and safety of university student interns and taking care of the facility. The ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills, be able to work independently, and have a passion for helping others.
Responsibilities
Resident Assistant
• Provide daily support and assistance to college student residents
• Coordinate and facilitate community building activities and events
• Respond to emergencies, such as medical or safety issues, and report to the appropriate personnel as needed
• Monitor and enforce housing policies and rules to ensure a safe and respectful living environment
• Conduct regular inspections of common areas, report maintenance issues, and ensure the cleanliness and functionality of the apartment complex.
• Assist with move-in and move-out procedures
• Serve as a resource for residents by providing information and referrals to campus resources, local businesses, and services
• Communicate regularly with director regarding resident needs and issues
• Participate in on-call duty rotation for after-hours emergency response
Event Facilitator
• Ensure the space is open for caterers and event planners.
• Ensure the space is prepared for events.
• Conclude events with a checklist to ensure the facility is in good condition.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Ability to problem solve
• Availability to work weekends as assigned (events, move in, move out, etc.)
Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
Preferences
Preferences (optional):
• Previous experience in residential life, student affairs, or related field
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Knowledge of Washington, DC area and resources preferred
