    Job Summary

    The Division of Undergraduate Education is seeking an Assessment and Evaluation Specialist to support curriculum planning and student success initiatives. These initiatives depend on data analysis and assessment to inform decisions about policies and practices that impact equitable student success as well as highlighting issues that warrant attention. This work is also informed by a steering committee, which is chaired by the Provost and which includes senior leadership from the Division of Undergraduate Education. Key partners will include the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and the Analytics for Student Success and Equity Transformation (ASSET) research group. The goal is to devise data-driven and evidence-based initiatives to support student success and curriculum management and development within the LSA. The position will report to the Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Education and Curriculum.

     

    This position will be hybrid, requiring 3 days per week in-office and will have a shared campus workspace at the Ann Arbor, MI campus location.

    Responsibilities*

    Program Evaluation and Assessment

    + Help the College take advantage of and contribute to data sets relevant to student success, which draw together both quantitative and qualitative information from multiple sources, from on-campus and off, providing next generation portraits of the student experience and its impact on long-term life outcomes

    + Serve as a resource for divisional leadership and the LSA Curriculum Office to answer emerging questions and guide strategic planning. As appropriate, serve as a resource for college academic units, departments, and programs.

    Data collection and analysis

    + Collaborate with campus stakeholders in analyzing these data sets to answer curriculum planning, student success and equity questions of importance to LSA leadership, along with those raised by staff within the Division of Undergraduate Education

    + Participate with other campus partners in the development and implementation of new analytic tools such as course and department equity reports, the ATLAS tools, and regular collection of qualitative input from students, faculty, and staff. This work may include collaborations on tools and datasets housed within partner units.

    Presentations and Communications

    + Provide support for grant-seeking and other fundraising activities within the Division of Undergraduate Education by identifying and communicating areas of need, testing novel approaches to recruiting, admissions, and student support, and providing evidence of impact for student support programs

    + Present data and analyses to various audiences, create written materials to communicate findings, and create written project proposals.

    Additional Duties

    + Develop a community of practice within UGED and LSA to provide guidance and resources for the development of data competencies within the Division, the sharing of business intelligence, and the clarification and advancement of data governance as they all pertain to student success and curriculum planning.

    + Collaborate with multiple units and represent the Division of Undergraduate Education

    + Consult on data-related projects.

    Required Qualifications*

    + Master's degree in a relevant field (such as Education, Information, Program Evaluation or Data Science) or equivalent experience.

    + 2 + years of professional experience collecting, managing, or evaluating data or conducting research about educational experiences or outcomes

    + Experience with reading/consulting education research literature

    + Demonstrated commitment to equity in data analysis and in considering the impact of policies and programs on diverse groups of students from a variety of backgrounds.

    + 2 + years of professional experience with advanced data analysis and visualization tools, multivariate models, and handling large datasets in various formats (such as Tableau, Excel, Google Sheets, and Airtable)

    + Proficient knowledge of and experience with analytical approaches

    + Advanced computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs, i.e. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and analysis software (R or Stata, Mplus, Maxqda or Nvivo or Dedoose) and survey tools (e.g., Qualtrics).

    Desired Qualifications*

    + PhD in a relevant field (such as Education, Information, Data Science or Program Evaluation), or equivalent experience.

    + 5+ years of professional experience collecting, managing, or evaluating data or conducting research about educational experiences or outcomes

    + Experience with survey instrument design and conducting focus groups or interviews

    + Proficiency in analytical approaches such as IRT, CFA/EFA, SEM, multivariate regression, causal inference methods (e.g., matching, DiD), and grounded theory or thematic analysis
