    Job Summary

    The Comprehensive Studies Program (CSP) in the College of Literature, Science and the Arts at the University of Michigan invites applications for an anticipated 100% Lecturer I position in Biology for the Fall 2025 and Winter 2026 terms.

     

    The successful candidate will teach two CSP discussion sections (50% appointment) of Biology 171 (Introductory Biology: Ecology and Evolution) in both Fall and Winter, and two sections (50% appointment) of a one-credit companion course to Biology 305 (Genetics) in the Fall and Winter terms. This course will provide CSP students with targeted support in a smaller class setting to strengthen problem-solving and metacognitive skills. The anticipated schedule for the Fall term is listed below:

     

    + Biology 171 discussion sections: T/Th 10:00AM - 12:00PM and T/Th 1:00PM - 3:00PM

    + EEB 303: Mon 10-11:30 and Mon 4-5:30

     

    The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate courses in ecology, evolution, and genetics; must exhibit a willingness to devote extra time and effort to students outside class via additional office hours for individualized instruction; must be committed to helping students succeed and use creative approaches to meeting students where they are and helping them grow; must be willing to develop exercises and activities to target misconceptions and give students extra support with challenging content; must be willing to employ best practices based on current biology education research.

     

    Applicants for this position are also expected to interact with and provide feedback to CSP Academic Advisors regarding student academic progress throughout the term through mid-semester progress reports and other mechanisms. A candidate's qualifications, previous college-level teaching experience, evidence of outstanding teaching, and alignment with the characteristics listed above will determine the selection of a candidate.

    Required Qualifications*

    Applicants must be qualified to teach undergraduate ecology, evolution, and genetics courses. Master's degree and experience teaching undergraduate biology required.

    Desired Qualifications*

    Ph.D. in Biology preferred with at least 3 years of undergraduate biology teaching experience.
