The Sensing Technologies and Algorithms team is a multidimensional team of experts tasked with conducting applied research in the domains of interior and exterior sensing systems, technologies, capabilities, architectures, and features.
The Sensing Technologies and Algorithms Supervisor role is a strong technical & operational leadership position, leading this team in guiding the exploration of new sensor hardware, directing data analysis efforts, overseeing sensing algorithm development, proposing and executing test plans, evaluating sensor performance, delivering proof-of-concept demonstrations, and managing the implementation readiness process.
Your projects will enable new capabilities for the future generation of perception & sensing systems, contributing directly to the creation of innovative, revenue-generating vehicle features, the reduction of cost and complexity in sensing systems, and the enablement of critical occupant safety and regulatory compliance. You will work closely with cross-functional partners in Hardware, Software, and Product to define sensor requirements, drive technical direction, and outline a technology roadmap for future programs.
What you'll do...
+ Work closely with the Camera technical specialist, Safety Sensor TS, & Sensor Arch TS to lead research & development of sensing tech including sensor design, implementation, characterizations and application oriented technical development.
+ Lead investigations with internal teams on sensing applications for: Comfort, Convenience, Access, Vehicle Security, Wellness, Identity, and other related vehicle applications.
+ Drive new sensing architectures to reduce size, thermal, power requirements, & cost.
+ Ensure all developed technologies and solutions address relevant occupant safety ratings and regulatory compliance requirements (e.g., Euro NCAP), collaborating closely with safety engineering and homologation teams.
+ Collaborate with cross functional teams including strategy and planning, application/product engineers, and others in defining data needs, validation of solutions against real-world application benchmarks, quality and robustness checks and continuous improvement.
+ Develop a research portfolio for progressing external research with leading universities.
+ Explore novel architectural solutions and emerging technologies, performing competitive analyses, to support development of a technology cycle plan for imaging technologies.
+ Transfer technologies to the production team as they reach Application Readiness.
+ Perform feasibility studies, alternate solution identification and evaluation, including POC development to help determine feasibility and provide estimates and timelines to implementation.
+ Perform ROI, TARR, & cost analysis to identify value to the company as well as measures of success.
+ Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning within the team.
+ Mentor and develop team members, supporting their technical and career growth within Ford.
+ Manage team performance, including goal setting, performance reviews, and providing constructive feedback.
+ Strategically allocate team resources to projects, ensuring optimal utilization and alignment with priorities.
You'll have...
+ Minimum BS Electrical Engineering/Computer Science/Computer Engineering degree or related field
+ 5+ years of experience with sensing architectures to meet system constraints on power, size, and cost.
+ 5+ years of development experience of automotive imaging and/or other sensing systems (e.g., radar, UWB, capacitive).
+ 3+ years of experience applying knowledge of sensor physics (optical, RF, etc.) and signal processing to evaluate the strengths and limitations of various sensing modalities.
+ 2 years experience in a technical leadership capacity, with responsibilities that include project management and the mentorship of engineers or developers.
+ 1 year experience in developing and execuiting technical strategies and roadmaps.
+ Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

+ Masters Degree
+ 10+ years of development experience of automotive sensing systems.
+ Experience in modeling, building & testing complex, and multi-physics systems.
+ Familiarity with component level and system performance measurement methods.Knowledge of various design methodologies (waterfall, agile, etc...).
+ In-depth knowledge of requirements development.
+ Demonstrated proficiency in laboratory work, hardware evaluation, data analysis, and leading complex engineering analysis tasks.
+ Experience with software development and efficiency tools (e.g., GIT, JIRA, Confluence).
+ Experience in developing artifacts supporting Ford’s functional safety development process.
+ AI/ML techniques for sensor design or signal conditioning.
+ Experience in assessing the commercial viability and market potential of new technologies, including contributing to business cases or ROI analyses.
+ Familiarity with automotive safety standards (e.g., Euro NCAP, FMVSS) and their impact on sensor system requirements and validation.
