    SENIOR RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT OFFICER, VP for Research, to oversee MIT's approach to high-value, multi-agency federal awards, fostering cross-departmental collaboration, and supporting senior leadership and designated faculty in the preparation of competitive proposals. Will support large-scale, federally funded proposals and partnerships and ensure operationalizing large federal engagements that are essential for MIT’s long-term research agenda. Will likely manage 4-6 large-scale federal proposals at once. Will play a key role in navigating public-private partnerships and hybrid funding, including at times, a mixture of federal, foundation, gift and state funding.

    Job Requirements

    REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; a minimum of seven years of experience managing large-scale federally funded projects, particularly those exceeding $10M; experience in research administration and public-private partnerships; proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage complex projects, and influence key stakeholders across MIT and external partners; strong strategic thinking, project management, and communication skills; ability to navigate the federal funding landscape and respond to shifting political and funding priorities; and familiarity with federal funding processes, particularly for large-scale research initiatives, and the challenges and opportunities associated with multi-agency proposals. PREFERRED: Master’s degree in a related field; demonstrated ability to manage high-value, high-impact federal proposals, and work effectively with academic and administrative leaders; experience working with federal agencies, private sector partners, and cross-departmental teams to advance research goals; and ability to adapt strategies in response to changing federal funding priorities and MIT’s evolving needs.
