    Job Summary

    The Active Older Adult (AOA) Coordinator is responsible for the planning, coordination, and implementation of programs and services that promote physical, social, and emotional wellness for older adults (typically ages 55+). This role focuses on building a welcoming and inclusive community, ensuring high-quality programs, and supporting healthy aging through group exercise, social events, educational opportunities, and volunteer engagement.

     

    Essential Functions: Plan, organize, and oversee wellness programs, group fitness classes, workshops, and social activities for older adults.

     

    Develop and maintain relationships with older adult members, fostering a sense of community and belonging.

     

    Partner with instructors, volunteers, and staff to ensure programs are safe, engaging, and aligned with YMCA goals.

     

    Coordinate special events and trips that support the interests and needs of the older adult population.

     

    Monitor attendance, evaluate program effectiveness, and adjust offerings based on member feedback and trends.

     

    Promote AOA programs through marketing and outreach efforts, including newsletters, flyers, and social media.

     

    Ensure all activities comply with YMCA policies, health & safety guidelines, and risk management procedures.

    Hiring Range: $20.76 - $24.20/hour DOE

    Responsibilities

    + Establish new program activities and expand program(s) within the community in accordance with the Association and Branch strategic plans related to area of focus.

    + Plans and executes Active Older Adult (AOA) Programming including Clubs, Workshops, Excursions and Activities.

    + Oversees AOA-Specific Sports or Leagues (i.e., Pickleball, Table Tennis, Men's Over 50 Basketball, etc.)

    + Facilitates Chronic Disease Programs for the Active Older Adult population, including Pedaling for Parkinson’s, Enhance Fitness, Adaptive Programs, etc.

    + Act as liaison to our Silver & Fit, Renew Active and Senior members, including implementing a touch point program to encourage branch usage.

    + Assists in creating Personalized Wellness Plans for AOA members.

    + Plans and executes an AOA Equipment Orientation.

    + Encourages member involvement and identifies potential volunteers.

    + Other duties as assigned.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    This position is an on-site position at Sammamish YMCA.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

     

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

    POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

    This is a part-time, on-site position. The position is 10-15 hours per week. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

    Qualifications

    + Strong customer service skills, responding to multiple inquiries via phone, email, and in person.

    + Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.

    + Knowledge of standard office equipment such as fax machines, copiers, and phone systems.

    + Current state approved first aid certification. *

    + Current state approved CPR or Professional Rescuer certification. *

    + Ability to set up, move, and store equipment.

    + Working knowledge of health and fitness programs and philosophies.

    *Within 60 days of employment or at first available training, may be required at hire.

    PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    + One or more years related experience working with Active Older Adult populations preferred.

    + Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.

    + This driving-preferred role has the potential to transport clients as an “authorized driver” for the YMCA using an employer-provided vehicle. To become an authorized driver, you must be 21+, have had a driver's license for at least 3 years and with a driving record that meets Y standards (no more than 2 moving violations within the last 3 years, no major incidents such as reckless driving, DUI/DWI, no tickets 20+ miles above the speed limit etc.). As driving roles are safety sensitive, you would also need pass a drug screen that will test for impairing substances including marijuana. *Due to state-specific reporting requirements in our fleet management system, we are not currently able to enroll California Driver's License holders as Authorized Drivers.
