    Summary:

    We are developing all the technologies needed to enable breakthrough Smartglasses, AR glasses and VR headsets, including optics and displays, computer vision, audio, graphics, brain-computer interfaces, haptic interaction, eye/hand/face/body tracking, perception science, and true telepresence. Some of those will advance much faster than others, but they all need to happen to enable AR and VR that are so compelling that they become an integral part of our lives. The audio team within RL Research is looking for an experienced, innovative Signal Processing and Machine Learning Research Scientist, with a specialty in multi-channel audio processing to join our growing team. You will be doing research and applied research in technologies that improve listener’s hearing abilities under challenging listening conditions, with a team of dedicated researchers, developers, and engineers. You will operate at the intersection of acoustics, hearing and signal processing algorithms with hardware and software co-design.

    Required Skills:

    Research Scientist Multi-channel Audio Processing and Machine Learning Responsibilities:

    1. Develop novel algorithms and signal processing techniques to solve complex problems at the intersection between beamforming, machine learning, acoustics and signal processing with applications in VR and AR

    2. Develop Multi-channel audio algorithms combining DSP and ML, and limit their total footprint on memory and compute

    3. Lead the development of applications to enable quick prototyping, proof-of-concept and demonstrations

    4. Collaborate with teams in the larger Reality Labs organization and provide creative leadership on cross-team technologies

    5. Mentor researchers and engineers, providing technical guidance and expertise

    6. Drive the development of new research initiatives and contribute to the overall strategy of the audio team

    Minimum Qualifications:

    7. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience

    8. PhD or equivalent experience in Applied Mathematics, Audio Engineering and Signal Processing, Acoustics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field

    9. 8+ years Experience developing and productizing audio real-time solutions

    10. 8+ years Experience developing, implementing and evaluating ML and DSP solutions for microphone arrays

    11. 8+ years experience in programming in C++, MATLAB, or Python

    12. Experience with cross-group and cross-functional collaboration

    13. 8+ years experience optimizing multi-channel real-time audio solutions on edge devices

    14. Demonstrated experience designing, executing and analyzing perceptual studies to evaluate audio performance

    15. Proven track record of achieving successful tech transfers in industry

    16. Experience with patent filing and intellectual property protection

    17. Proven track record of publication record in top-tier conferences and journals

    Public Compensation:

    $85.10/hour to $251,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
