Job Description
**1. Personnel Management.** The Executive Director will lead, supervise, and direct assigned personnel, including but not limited to hiring, coaching and developing, promoting, rewarding, assigning and reviewing work, directing work, approving transfers, disciplining, suspending, discharging, and adjusting grievances to ensure that staff are skilled and available as needed, collective bargaining agreements and Minnesota State policies and procedures are implemented and appropriately enforced, and projects are staffed correctly to meet deadlines and stay within budget. Provides training, professional development and coaching for staff and promotes and encourages leadership opportunities at the University. Directs the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of staff to ensure proficient performance and a productive environment.
**2. Advancement Leadership.** Establish, monitor, and evaluate priorities and goals for major gifts, planned giving, strategic partnerships, regional advancement, stewardship, and annual funds for the University in coordination with strategic objectives set forth by the Vice President for University Advancement. Identify university resource development needs by conducting research and collaborating with staff, faculty, administration, and external professionals. Evaluate program structure, systems, policies, and procedures and implement changes as needed. Develop and monitor unit operating budgets. Advise the Vice President for Advancement with achievable goals and objectives, project status, and issues needing attention, evaluation, resolution, and decisions. Under the direction of the Vice President provides leadership support to the Foundation Board and Board committees. Serve as a member of the University’s Council of Administration and represent the division on university committees.
**3. Community Engagement & Partnership Development.** Facilitates interactions between leadership, faculty, staff, Foundation Board Members, government officials, and other persons of influence related to the University’s short and long- term goals and objectives. Develops and sustains strategic community engagement, seizing opportunities to invite new supporters and partners into new or deeper relationships with the organization. Promotes growth in external funding from both traditional and nontraditional sources by developing and promoting development opportunities with external entities. Oversee multiple projects simultaneously and multiple internal staff and external partnerships. Participates in community events and organizations on behalf of the University, seeking input and sharing information in proactive ways.
**4. Portfolio Management.** Responsible for personally building and maintaining a portfolio of approximately 50 donors. Manage the portfolio from discovery through cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
5. **Perform other duties as assigned** to ensure the smooth functioning of the departent and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner. Implements Minnesota State system, institutional and departmental policies and procedures, as comply with all local, state and federal laws, regulations, guidelines and business and industry standards.
**Salary Range:** $37.60-$56.10/Hour; Commensurate w/Experience
Minimum Qualifications
+ Six (6) years of experience in advancement fundraising
+ Demonstrated experience in successful solicitation of major gifts fundraising.
+ Leadership and project management experience in setting priorities, directing staff and managing work.
+ Experience in launching and leading a capital campaign and/or other successful fundraising activities.
+ Proven skills in financial management and budgeting .
+ Professional experience working with boards and volunteers.
Preferred Qualification
+ Masters degree
+ Experience in fundraising and resource development for higher education environment, particularly in a university setting
+ Knowledge of higher education issues and the ability to relate those issues to governmental, corporate, and philanthropic communities in Minnesota.
+ Knowledge of and skill in identifying, researching, cultivating and soliciting major gifts and planned gifts, and conducting fundraising campaigns.
+ Demonstrated experience in developing corporate and community relationships.
