    Job Description

    Position Title: Principal Intern

     

    Salary Range: Elementary- $65,000.00

     

    Middle- $70,000.00

     

    High School- $75,000.00

     

    Contract Length: July 1-June 30

     

    Immediate Supervisor: P rincipal

    Basic Function:

    T he Principal Intern assists the Principal and Assistant Principal(s) in the performance of the various leadership responsibilities including instructional leadership, which are attendant to the successful administration of the school. The specific duties which are assigned by the Principal and the decision-making authority related to such assignments are as established in the working relationship between the Principal and Principal Intern. The Principal Intern will work with district level coaches to ensure successful experiences are achieved during the internship that align with the Professional Standards for Educational Leaders (PSEL). T he intern will be deeply embedded within all systems of the school including continuous cycles of improvement, walkthroughs, evaluation, and feedback cycles.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    + Evaluate support staff performance.

    + Evaluate with monitoring a small cohort of teachers to gain experience with the evaluation process. ? Supervise facilities to ensure efficient use of resources as well as time management related to extracurricular events.

    + Responsible for the safety, conduct, and general welfare of students.

    + Monitor student progress and the analyzing of data to inform professional learning plans. ? Experience with continuous cycles of improvement processes as they relate to school improvement planning.

    + Understand the implementation of the Standards for Professional Learning.

    + Connect the PSEL standards to daily leadership tasks through effective reflection processes. ? Identify individual growth goals as well as artifacts to support growth in given goal areas. ? Develop and manage sound fiscal practices in assigned areas of responsibility.

    + Other duties as assigned by district coaches, principal, or directors of school learning. ? Extended school and After-School or Saturday School responsibilities as needed.

    Knowledge & Experience:

    + Master’s degree.

    + Completion of Administration Certification required.

    + Experience working with diverse populations.

    + Experience working with community agencies and groups.

    + Experience with the day-to-day operation of schools.

    + Strong knowledge of child development.

    + Demonstrated skill in building relationships, trust and respect.

    + Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups.

    + Ability to communicate well and to apply leadership skills within a shared decision-making model. ? Sound educational philosophy and instructional competence.

    + Knowledge and prior application of current information, theory, and research in education. ? Knowledge of and prior successful experience working in a diverse setting.

    + A background in the appropriate level of the organization (elementary, middle, and high). ? Experience with a school-wide discipline program.

    + Experience with a diverse student population.

    + A background in computer technology.

    Work Conditions:

    + Repetitive hand movement and fine coordination to use a computer keyboard. ? Emotional stability to work effectively under pressure and to keep all aspects of the job under control.

    + Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone.

    Physical Demands:

    Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, other technologies, and office equipment, sitting; Standing and w alking for extended periods of time; Kneeling or bending at the waist; Lifting; pushing; pulling and carrying equipment, supplies, and materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
