    JOB SUMMARY of ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Adheres to Hospital’s Policies and Procedures and Philosophy of Care. Consistently exhibits professional conduct that is a behavior-based expression of the Hospital’s Standards of Excellence and Code of Conduct principles. Confidential position responsible for acting as a Business Partner to management and employees in Human Resources aspects, including employee relations, labor relations, grievances and lawsuits and/or mediations, employee credentialing and performance appraisals. Communicates and corresponds appropriately, professionally and timely with management, employees across all departments, labor unions, vendors and the public. Provides excellent customer service to all external and internal customers. Maintains legally compliant and up-to-date HR personnel files and other records. Assists HR Supervisor with revision and development of policies and procedures. May participate in Safety Committee, Education Committee, Patient Care Committee, Nurse Staffing Committee, departmental staff meetings, Hospital Week or other employee event planning meetings. Assists/serves as backup to Recruiter and HR Supervisor as appropriate. Performs other duties as assigned.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE; CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:

    Bachelor’s degree or four (4) year’s equivalent work experience in Human Resources. Minimum of five (5) year’s work experience in Human Resources field required. Experience in Human Resources in a hospital or other healthcare organization strongly preferred. Experience in a diverse range of Human Resources specialties (i.e., employee relations, labor relations, employee credentialing) required. Professional in Human Resources (PHR), Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) or Certified in Healthcare Human Resources (CHHR) preferred.

    SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

    Ability to function independently and professionally with minimal supervision. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of information and documents. Strong critical thinking skills and ability to establish and maintain appropriate professional boundaries. Highly detail oriented with expertise in Excel, Word and an aptitude for learning proprietary software and systems. Excellent interpersonal communication and listening skills. Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and ongoing tasks.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS:

    Extended periods of time sitting, operating a PC. Adheres to all state and federal regulations pertaining to hazardous materials.

    WORK CONTACT GROUP:

    Employees, medical staff, outside professional services providers, unions, and the public.

    SPECIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    Ability to sit for extended periods of time. Ability to stretch, bend, stoop, and push, pull or lift a minimum of 20 lbs. Sufficient visual and auditory acuity to operate a PC, effectively communicate over the telephone and in person.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    + Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of policies, procedures, collective bargaining agreements, regulatory requirements, laws and work rules as they relate to Human Resources. Assists HR Supervisor with revision and development of policies and procedures. Provides management with assistance interpreting and applying all of the above. Responds to routine inquires from employees regarding all of the above. Assists employees with completion of HR forms.

    + Participates in coaching, investigatory, disciplinary and termination meetings. Ensures union representation, if desired by employee, and pre-determination hearing is provided to employee prior to any disciplinary decision. May draft or review Corrective Action, Coaching, Performance Improvement Plan and Termination Letter documents.

    + Coordinates all grievance and complaint processes for all hospital departments. Ensures HR Supervisor is kept informed of all grievances and complaints. May attend grievance meetings and draft written responses.

    + Functions as HR Business Partner to management on any restructures, layoffs, new services, etc.

    + May participate in collecting data and information for union negotiations. May participate in union negotiations at the table.

    + Assists with the performance management process, including data entry of performance evaluation completions dates in the HRIS and filing of documents in employee personnel record.

    + Manages the licensure and certification compliance process. Data enters licensure and certification requirements to ensure timely completion and compliance. Oversees monthly reports and primary source verifies professional licenses with Department of Health. Generates and distributes management reports on a regular or as needed basis. Notifies management and HR Supervisor when an employee should be removed from work due to non-compliance with license/certification requirements.

    + Conducts formal management training on HR topics as designated by HR Supervisor.

    + May participate in departmental staff meetings, Hospital Week or other employee event planning meetings, or occasionally in Management Council or Leadership Team meetings.

    + May provide administrative support to the HR Supervisor as requested.

    + Performs other duties as assigned.
