    The PGY2 Internal Medicine Categorical Residents at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, participate in structured programs to develop skills in all six of the general competencies as outlined by the ACGME. The incumbent demonstrates basic competency in these areas by providing accurate and efficient patient care.

    JOB FUNCTIONS

    1. Performs thorough patient history and physical. 2. Synthesizes data into a problem list and differential diagnosis. 3. Formulates diagnostic and therapeutic plans and performs basic clinical

     

    procedures. 4. Demonstrates caring and respectful behavior toward patients. 5. Develops ability to self-evaluate educational needs and performance. 6. Incorporates relevant feedback and instruction into clinical activities. 7. Facilitates the learning of other learners on the care team. 8. Uses technology to enhance patient care and medical education. 9. Develops knowledge of practice and the clinical delivery system.

     

    10. Access appropriate resources.

    11. Identify error-prone system issues and needed improvement 12. Identify efficiency problems and needed improvement.

    13. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education: A M.D. or D.O. degree in relevant field

    Certification and Licensing:

    + ECFMG certification is required for medical degrees obtained outside the United States.

    + PGY2 Categorical Internal Medicine Residents must maintain a valid training license in the State of Florida throughout the duration of the training program.

    + PGY2 Categorical Internal Medicine Residents must maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) throughout the duration of the training program

    Experience:

    + All PGY2 Categorical Internal Medicine Residents must have successfully completed one year of training in an ACGME accredited Internal Medicine Residency program.

     

    Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail. • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines. • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion. • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary. • Commitment to the University’s core values. • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.

    Interpersonal and Communication Skills 1) Develop excellent communication skills2) Develop accurate, clear, and complete documentation skills3) Learn to present a case accurately and succinctly4) Establish an effective therapeutic relationship with patients and families5) Demonstrate effective listening skills

    Supervision Received:

    The PGY2 Categorical Internal Medicine Resident reports directly to the Program Director and is supervised by attending physicians at Holy Cross Hospital in all clinical areas.
