Job Overview:
The Director for Head & Neck Surgery will collaborate with departmental and health system leadership to develop and manage operational, fiscal, and administrative systems to create a dynamic clinical department that offers comprehensive and specialized Head and Neck Surgery care to patients throughout NJ in various practice settings, including all eight subspecialties: comprehensive otolaryngology; facial plastic and reconstructive surgery; head and neck surgical oncology; laryngology and professional voice; rhinology and anterior skull base surgery; sleep medicine and surgery; otology, neurotology and lateral skull base surgery; and pediatric otolaryngology. The Director will provide leadership and oversight of clinical operational administration and be responsible for the delivery and expansion of clinical services, facilitate physician recruitment and development, and support the growth and advancement of education and research. They will additionally promote a highly integrated approach to Head and Neck Surgery clinical care across New Brunswick and the Southern Region.
The Director will work closely with the Medical Group, departmental, and system leaders to help execute the vision of the system for the growth of Head and Neck Surgery. They will be responsible for overseeing strategic growth of the faculty and Head and Neck Surgery in the Academic Practices and community medical group practices in the Southern Region. They will work with leaders of the various affiliated practices to promote uniformity and quality, outcomes and reporting.
Working in tandem with Department and Medical Group leaders, the Director will enhance and grow Head and Neck Surgery services based on the pillars of service excellence, growth and engaging of faculty, residents, fellows, and clinical and support staff.
Qualifications:
+ Master s degree in related finance or healthcare field required.
+ Minimum 5 years progressive experience in project management, finance, healthcare management, and/or strategic planning required; additional years of experience in healthcare financial management/analysis and business planning preferred. Working experience in healthcare and/or similar academic medical center environment strongly preferred.
+ Experience in the management of Head and Neck Surgery services preferred.
+ Proven ability to demonstrate leadership and possesses an ability to effectively communicate with executive levels.
+ A proven ability to build consensus and motivate teams of diverse, multidisciplinary, and multi-departmental stakeholders at varied levels of academic and professional experience.
+ An ability to productively manage politically and financially sensitive issues.
+ Proactive identification, diagnosis, and timely resolution of issues.
+ Ability to prioritize and delivery on goals and priorities for the program while contributing to the planning and implementation of institutional priorities.
+ Knowledge and experience performing financial management, strategic planning and implementation, business development, space planning, information systems, process improvement, outcomes measurement, reporting, and human resource management functions.
+ Experience in project management, clinical operations management, strategy development, business and financial planning, budgeting, and financial reporting.
+ Financial and operational analytical skills required, including profit and loss, reimbursement analysis, business trends and process analysis, and identification of system weaknesses.
+ Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively at all levels of complex organization.
+ Skilled in balancing divergent priorities of faculty physicians and private, community-based physicians in a competitive marketplace.
Essential Functions:
+ Responsible for administrative leadership of department.
+ Will support operational leadership for continued growth and development of the academic faculty, sub-specialty multidisciplinary programs, and growth of Head and Neck Surgery in the medical group.
+ Leads departmental physician engagement, quality, outcomes and patient satisfaction initiatives.
+ Assists in managing the department finances; Performs analyses to identify revenue collection issues, reconciles expenses, and develops business plans under the direction of leadership.
+ Identifies, evaluates and implements new programs in collaboration with program leaders to apply innovation in services, technology and care delivery.
+ Supports Departmental and Medical Group leadership in developing an annual operating budget while ensuring it aligns with strategic priorities.
+ Will work with Medical Group, departmental, hospital and system leaders to execute the business development and strategic planning initiatives for system-wide services, focused on the Southern Region.
+ Cultivates relationships between academic departments, and the hospital/health system, space and technology planning.
+ Works with medical and surgical teams to identify opportunities for designations, accreditations, and other external recognitions inclusive of US News and World Report Hospital Ranking.
+ Develops and reports metrics to analyze the effectiveness of services, including volumes, quality and safety measures, patient satisfaction and financial performance.
+ Identifies and implements programs for quality improvement that help increase overall patient outcomes.
+ Leads activities aimed at improving high quality care, effective utilization of resources, development of multidisciplinary care teams that meet the needs of the whole patient, and cost containment.
+ Manages Head and Neck Surgery program meetings to ensure sustained execution of the program s strategic priorities.
+ Fosters teamwork, inter-departmental cooperation and communication across the continuum of care.
+ Maintains a strong and collaborative relationship with physicians to adopt and incorporate quality initiatives, understands economic considerations and increase physician/hospital alignment.
+ Facilitates cohesive, amicable and productive working relationships among all groups involved in services including physicians, staff and nursing leadership.
+ Promotes and builds strong relationships with physicians throughout the organization and the community.
+ Performs other related duties as assigned.
