Job Title: Medical AssistantJob Description
Under direct supervision, assist physicians and clinicians with patient care duties in a clinical environment. Promote efficient patient flow and care through exams and procedures. Perform clinic support tasks including clerical duties, answering phones, and maintaining physician schedules. Support and adhere to the Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
Responsibilities
+ Escort patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment rooms as appropriate.
+ Record patient data prior to each physician visit, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
+ Obtain all necessary patient records as required by the physician prior to treatment or procedures.
+ Prepare and stock exam/treatment rooms and order supplies as needed.
+ Assist physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
+ Administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, as delegated by RN or physician.
+ Maintain all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
+ Respond to patients' calls as requested.
+ Perform administrative duties, such as typing, filing, faxing, and reception, as requested by supervisor or physician.
+ Alert nurse/physician of abnormal vitals and any important information given by the patient.
+ Collect inbound meaningful use data, including flu documentation, initial height, and weight.
+ Print medication lists for patients and assist with disability forms.
+ Schedule blood transfusions, therapeutic phlebotomies, and order special tests.
+ Enter orders under a provider's direction and supervision.
Essential Skills
+ Current BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification.
+ Minimum three years of experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant.
+ Patient care and customer service skills.
+ Experience with electronic medical records (EMR).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ High school graduate or equivalent.
+ Certificate of graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants preferred.
+ Phlebotomy experience preferred.
+ Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
+ Some state regulations may require specific certifications in order to work as a Medical Assistant.
Work Environment
Work in an oncology office from Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. The position requires standing and walking for extensive periods. Occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00/hr.
