Job Title: Environmental Technician
Job Description
As a Field Technician II, you will operate, monitor, and maintain landfill gas migration control and recovery systems under general supervision. You will also provide long-term post-closure care at closed landfill sites and may manage other environmental pollution control systems. Your role requires professionalism, productivity, and a commitment to safety while reporting to supervisors.
Responsibilities
+ Sample various test locations including wells, probes, headers, blowers, flares, and pumps.
+ Record and analyze data, adjusting gas flow rates as needed based on data review and supervisor consultation.
+ Operate and maintain analytical equipment, including calibration.
+ Maintain daily field logs, reporting data collected, field observations, actions taken, and recommended actions.
+ Consult with supervisors regarding field conditions and test results.
+ Implement routine and non-routine repairs and maintenance to ensure system compliance.
+ Supervise and manage vendors or subcontractors for system operation and maintenance.
+ Conduct on-site Health and Safety meetings and ensure compliance with standards.
+ Perform surface emission monitoring using air-monitoring instruments.
+ Use tools and equipment to modify and repair gas well piping.
+ Operate backhoes or forklifts for soil removal and equipment lifting for non-routine repairs.
+ Lift manhole covers and enter vaults to obtain well measurements or tune gas wells.
+ Repair leachate or condensate pumps and manage their installation.
+ Complete site checklists and report changes or concerns to supervisors.
+ Participate in monthly Health and Safety meetings and training.
+ Prepare daily logs for work performed on sites.
+ Participate in the SAFE process and assist in developing health and safety plans.
+ Assist laborers and other staff as needed.
Essential Skills
+ Experience in construction, inspection, and civil engineering.
+ Proficiency in construction oversight and quality control.
+ Experience in civil/environmental inspection and inspection equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Associate’s degree preferred.
+ Five years of related work experience.
+ Experience with mechanical systems or construction preferred.
+ Ability to use basic hand tools and lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
+ Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
+ Willingness to travel overnight and work weekends if necessary.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
+ Experience in geosynthetics installation preferred.
+ Surveying and soils testing experience is a plus.
Work Environment
Work will be conducted at solid waste landfill sites across the Midwest, with remote work possible when not on-site. Typical hours are Monday to Friday, 10-11 hour days during the summer, with weekend work preferred. You will work on projects lasting 2-6 months and be home most weekends. The work environment is laid back and collaborative, reporting to project engineers and construction contractors.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $35.00/hr.
