Job Information
Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.
This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00
Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.

Example of Duties
Under general supervision from the AWWU General Accounting Supervisor, perform critical and frequent complex monthly reconciliations of major balance sheet accounts, including AWWU's principal bank accounts. Analyze monthly balance sheet accounts for error or unusual balances and research problems, prepare correcting entries to bring financial accounts into compliance with GAAP. Maintain detailed descriptions of General Ledger (GL) accounts including their purpose, inflow and outflow activity and detailed instructions for reconciling each account, and for troubleshooting the reconciliation processes. Reconcile interface activities between AWWU's Customer Information System (CIS), work order management system (WMS), and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. Research proper accounting for unusual or unique transactions and participate in the preparation of monthly closing reports indicating new procedures, training or policies needed to improve AWWU financial reporting practices. Maintain audit records and documentation. Prepare annual external audit work papers, reports, and schedules. Support AWWU's General Accounting or Plant Accounting activities as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.
Participates in major emergencies or disasters as outlined in AWWU’s disaster plan matrix, which defines each employee’s potential duties and responsibilities. This may include 12-hour work shifts, which may continue for 72 hours or more starting at any time an event might occur, 7 days a week, 24 hours per day.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and seven (7) years of experience in accounting, payroll, or similar office responsibility.
OR
Associate’s degree in Accounting, Economics, Management, Business Administration, or a related discipline, and five (5) years of professional accounting work experience.
OR
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Economics, Management, Business Administration, or a related discipline, and three (3) years of professional accounting work experience.
OR
A certificate as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA), and three (3) years of professional accounting work experience.
Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history.

Military Service Interview Preference

Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows the full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization, and shows the name, signature, title, and contact information of the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
