    The Mission of the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement (LCLE) is to improve the operations of the criminal justice and juvenile justice system and promote public safety by providing progressive leadership and coordination within the criminal justice community.

    We're looking for a highly motivated and dedicated Criminal Justice Policy Planner to join our team.     Minimum Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Three years of experience in criminal justice, policy planning or analysis, law enforcement, legal research, contracts or grants management, statistical analysis, or program auditing; OR

    Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR

    A bachelor's degree.

    EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

    Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

    Job Duties and Other Information

    Job Duties:

    + Promote and expand the JDAI model, which includes focusing on interagency collaboration, using data to drive decisions, relying on objective criteria, and developing community-based alternatives to detention. The goal is to reduce admissions, shorten lengths of stay, and decrease racial disparities in secure detention.

    + Provide leadership and support to develop, implement, and evaluate strategies that reduce disproportionate minority contact within the juvenile justice system. This involves examining practices, establishing cultural competency training, and increasing awareness of detention alternatives.

    + Build interest and momentum among prospective local JDAI sites and stakeholders, participate in steering committees, and represent the agency at state and federal meetings.

    + Direct research projects, coordinate activities related to the criminal justice system, identify statistical information for policymaking, and define state-level juvenile justice data sets.

    + Train and educate local staff and juvenile justice personnel on JDAI principles and effective strategies to reduce R.E.D., including designing and delivering effective R.E.D. training.

    + Manage the implementation, compliance, and reporting for both JDAI and R.E.D. initiatives, including analyzing R.E.D. data, facilitating State Compliance Plans, and producing required reports for OJJDP.

    + Assist with gathering data for juvenile reports and grant applications.

    Appointment Type: Probational. Current classified permanent status employees may be required to take a probational appointment if selected for this position.
