Responsibilities You will remove fixed sheet metal and composite structures from aircraft and disassemble structural and non-structural metal and composite components. You will work from technical drawings, directives, manuals, and other written or verbal instructions, and assist equivalent and lower-grade level employees. You will use hand or power tools to make replacement parts for aircraft structural and skin sections. You will assess damaged parts to determine the sequence of operations necessary to affect repairs or replacements. You will comply with safety regulations, practices, and procedures. You will be required to have regular and predicable attendance, which is an essential function of this position. You will accomplish other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform common tasks including: 1) Performing metal repair, fabrication, planning, laying out, designing, and assembling/dissembling aircraft and aircraft components; 2) Applying knowledge of the characteristics and properties of any metals (i.e. stainless steel, magnesium, honeycomb) used in the trade; 3) Using hand and power tools, as well as precision measuring instruments; 4) Reading and interpreting blueprints, technical manuals, and schematics of items to be repaired; 5) Devising templates/patterns into shapes (i.e. rectangular, cylindrical, tapered, etc.); 6) Using geometry, trigonometry, and other shop mathematics to design parts. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Certain incentives (such as Recruitment, Relocation or Student Loan Repayment) may be authorized to eligible selectees. A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized. This position requires rotating shift work. This position requires evening and weekend work. This position requires exposure to high noise levels. Physical exertion requires heavy lifting and carrying objects up to 45 pounds. Several vacancies may be filled. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments.
