About the Opportunity
Rate of pay $20.00 per hour commensurate with experience
Overnight schedule provides a $3.00 stipend on top of the pay rates listed above.
We offer 12-hour shifts. Rotating schedules of 2 days on 2 days off

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Dispatcher is responsible to handle and triage inbound calls for service, evaluate the nature of the request, and dispatch appropriate resources according to the standard operating procedures, consistent documenting of calls based on Monroe Ambulance standards. This position demands a high degree of situational awareness. The dispatcher is critical to the safety of our employees and patients and must maintain regular communication with crews to monitor safety. This position requires cooperation between the dispatcher and the operations team on vehicle movement throughout the shift. The dispatcher is responsible for capturing all required data points, which is critically important to the successful management of the business.
Essential Job Functions
+ Operates an EMS Computer-Aided Dispatching console consisting of a multi-button telephone system, base radio, and computer terminal.
+ Answer incoming calls and extracts necessary information from callers.
+ Evaluates incoming calls to determine the nature and urgency of the call.
+ Dispatches the appropriate units (police fire, EMS)
+ Manage the SSMP (System Status Management Plan).
+ Transmits messages and information to Fire/EMS units responding to calls.
+ Answers routine questions or refers calls to appropriate agencies or non-Fire/EMS inquiries.
+ Consults supervisor on non-routine matters.
+ Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
+ Remain calm and effective under heavy workloads and in emergency situations.
+ Exercise good judgment in emergency situations.
+ Obtain and act on information quickly and accurately in emergency situations.
+ Understand and follow oral and written instructions in the English language.
+ Comprehend and make inferences from written materials such as operations manuals and dispatch manuals.
+ Learn job-related material through oral instruction and observation, and through structured lecture and reading to effectively perform job duties.
+ Learn street locations, station locations, and geography of the areas served.
+ Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
Requirements
+ GED or high school diploma required, Associates degree preferred, and one (1) year of responsible full-time working experience
+ Must be able to pass the EMD program within 6 – 12 months of hire and maintain certification during employment.
+ Communicate orally in the English language with the public and co-workers in face-to-face one-on-one setting or using a telephone.
+ Work evenings, night, weekends, and holidays to maintain 24-hour coverage of the emergency dispatch system.
+ Public safety experience preferred.
+ EMS experience preferred
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will sit for extended periods of time, frequently required to stand, and walk. The employee must frequently speak and hear clearly and occasionally withstand higher than average levels of noise. The employee frequently performs tasks with manual dexterity (i.e., use of fingers, hands, and arms); reach with hands and arms. The employee will rarely climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, years of experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
