Summary This position is located within the Naval Air Station Pensacola and Corry Station, Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department and includes the A.C. Read Golf Course. Responsibilities Manage maintenance operations involved in providing maintenance of greens, fairways, tees, sand bunkers, bodies of water, roughs, maintenance shop, golf carts, club house and ball fields. Responsibility for the selection, training, assignment and assessment of maintenance staff, providing corrective actions as needed. Hold safety meetings to ensure the highest level of safety for all maintenance staff. Supervise the safe use and maintenance of the golf course mechanical equipment. Ensure that his staff is working within OSHA, club safety, state and federal guidelines for safe working conditions. Provide effective administration by developing and executing annual maintenance plan and budget for the course. Plan and budget for additional or replacement capital equipment. Tracking maintenance expenses including supplies, fertilizer, chemicals. Ordering parts, supplies and equipment as needed. Maintaining maintenance records and developing required maintenance reports. Supervise and control all expenses associated with Golf Course Operations. Interact with the Golf Professional to maximize the number of rounds of golf played and to schedule maintenance practices around Member play and outings to maximize efficiency. Provide agronomic direction for the healthy growth of the golf course grasses, trees, wetlands, and other plant materials. Supervise the application and recording of chemical applications on the Club's grounds in compliance with all local, state and federal regulations. Maintain the golf course at the highest quality possible at all times. ADMINISTRATIVE Responsible to the A.C Read Golf Director for furnishing information in establishing an annual operating budget of approximately $750,000+ Incumbent must continually monitor expenses to stay within the established budget. Oversee capital equipment purchases and working through the established budget process and advise the Golf Director of specific needs associated with keeping the maintenance fleet updated Assists the Golf Director with selectin and interviewing of prospective employees. Generates and reviews annual evaluations of assigned employees and recommend discipline of assigned personnel who fail to meet job requirements. Recommends promotions, awards and reassignments. TRAINING Establish and verify a training program and oversee the execution and implementation of efficient work methods and safe operations. Monitor the Federal inmates work release program and establishment and maintain programs that work along with the established Federal Prison guidelines for inmate safety. Responsible for oversight of DOD ecology regulations as pertains to the use of chemicals and their applications. Work along with the Golf Directors/Managers and Golf Professionals in establishing the hours of operation for the various maintenance functions to ensure maximum play or use of the golf course by patrons. Qualifying experience must have been equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Superintendent must have managerial, supervisory and administrative skills. Must be able to communicate his direction clearly and precisely through written and oral mediums. Have an understanding of the game of golf and how proper maintenance impacts the sport. Must have a working knowledge of computerized irrigation systems and fertilizations systems. Must have a working knowledge of turf grass diseases and understand the proper treatment to rectify the problems. Must be a current member of GCSAA. A class card and six years of experience as a Golf Course Superintendent or have a degree associated with turf grass with three years practical experience. Must have a working knowledge of golf course renovation and construction and should be familiar with golf course design and construction practices. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
