Structural Bonding/Adhesives Automotive Application Engineer

The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

The Structural Bonding Application Engineer will play a critical role in analyzing industry trends and engaging with automotive customers to develop new applications and product programs. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of structural design, automotive manufacturing processes, and structural adhesives, with at least five years of industry experience. Key Responsibilities include:

+ Analyze the latest advancements and industry trends in structural adhesives and automotive manufacturing processes to identify opportunities for new applications and product needs in the automotive sector.

+ Engage with automotive customers to understand their needs and develop tailored solutions to improve manufacturing and structural efficiency.

+ Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including customers, product development, marketing, external industry partners, and sales, to drive the successful implementation of new applications and products.

+ Provide technical support and expertise to customers, including conducting on-site visits, product demonstrations, and training sessions.

+ Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders in the automotive industry.

+ Prepare and present technical reports, proposals, and presentations to internal and external audiences.

Company Vehicle

This position requires driving a company vehicle, which will require pre-employment and ongoing review of motor vehicle history for candidates who are offered and hired for this position

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

+ Bachelor’s degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution

+ Five (5) years of experience in the automotive industry with a focus on structural adhesives or bonding applications.

+ Current, valid Driver’s License.

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

+ Strong understanding of structural design principles and automotive manufacturing processes.

+ Proven track record of successfully developing and implementing new applications and product programs.

+ Experience in automotive part design, development, and validation

+ Ability and willingness to effectively document technical work and present results

+ Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and accommodate changing circumstances

+ Experience with CAD software and simulation tools

+ Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to automotive manufacturing and adhesives

+ Familiarity with automation processes

+ Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.

+ Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage with customers and cross-functional teams.

+ Ability to travel as needed to support customer engagements and on-site visits.

Work location:

+ **Hybrid Eligible (Job Duties allow for some remote work but require travel to Livonia, MI** **at least 3** **days per week)**

Travel: May include up to 20% domestic

Relocation Assistance: May be authorized

Applicable to US Applicants Only:The expected compensation range for this position is $141,150 - $172,517, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position.
