Description
**Job Purpose:** The Community Outreach Nutrition Specialist assists in the management and implementation of a high quality, evidence-based Community Nutrition Program that distinguishes our agency as a leader in the food and nutrition industry. Our focus is on early intervention of nutrition and wellness education and being a strong community partner to provide all children with access to fresh, tasty, nutritious, student accepted, and safe food. This position is responsible for assisting with all aspects of our community nutrition program, menu management, and ensuring compliance within all Department of Public Instruction (DPI) and nutrition credentialing audits.
Essential Job Functions:

+ Manages the master nutrition information database utilizing HealthePro, or designated nutrition analysis software, including carbohydrate counts, allergies, etc.
+ Keeps updated files for Child Nutrition labels, nutrition information, and ingredient statements.
+ Co-leads menu development, menu enhancement, recipe crediting, and distribution of menus and menu tools. Co-leads the recipe development process and the Culinary Council.
+ Updates and distributes all nutrition/crediting related documents, including production transport sheets, production assignments, etc.
+ Assists with ensuring compliance for all Department of Public Instruction and nutrition credentialing audits. This includes site visits, style of service training, general training/education, wellness policy reviews, and pre-audits for DPI.
+ Creates, distributes, and presents nutrition and wellness education materials to CFI community partners, agency employees, agency consumers, and as assigned.
+ Maintains and improves service delivery by assessing the organization and its services from the customer’s point of view.
+ Participates and presents in staff meetings and provides information regarding menu development, clinical nutrition management protocols, including training, and audit preparation.

Qualifications
**Required Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure and Credentials:** (Where appropriate, education and/or experience may be substituted)
**Minimum Required Education** : Bachelor of Science or Masters in Dietetics or Nutrition, or an Associate’s degree as a Diet Technician, Registered, preferred. Will consider a candidate who is enrolled in an accredited Dietetics, Nutrition, or Diet Technician programs as well as individuals with equivalent experience.
**Minimum Required Experience** : Experience in school nutrition is preferred
Required License – Certification – Registration:
+ ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification required within 90 days of hire and to be maintained throughout employment.
+ Registered Dietitian or Registered Diet Technician with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is preferred.
+ ServSafe Proctor and ServSafe Instructor is desired.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
+ Knowledge and Ability to communicate regulation, standard, or policy within the context of the customer’s situation.
+ Knowledge of nutrition related software, preferred.
+ Knowledge to use work related equipment and applications such as cell phone and texting, computers, photo copier, Microsoft Office, and Teams
+ Ability to utilize resources in an organized manner and prioritize tasks.
+ Ability to work with staff and clients from diverse backgrounds.
+ Access to a reliable personal vehicle
Physical Requirements, Visual Acuity, and Work Conditions:
**Physical Requirements:** Exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Walking, moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, pushing, pulling. Lifting, raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to-position. Fingering, picking, pinching, grasping items, typing, or otherwise working. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
Talking, expressing, or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing, perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
**Visual Acuity** : The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal.
**Working Conditions** : Exposure to indoor and outdoor elements. Exposure to a variety of community-based work environments, including production kitchens, schools, afterschool programs, etc., that may present varying levels of activity, noise, and temperatures. Remote work possibilities to be discussed.
