The Assistant Professor position in the Nutrition Sciences and Health Behavior department is 50% educational effort and 50% clinical effort. The educational portion is located on the University of Texas Medical Branch Campus in Galveston, TX and the clinical portion is in the UTMB Bariatric Surgery Clinic in League City, TX.
Educational and Scholarly Duties:
+ Teach graduate level nutrition courses in the combined MS/DI program located in Galveston, TX
+ Mentor graduate students.
+ Serve on department and school committees.
+ Collaborate as part of an interdisciplinary team.
+ Perform related duties as required.
Clinical Dietitian Duties:
+ Provide specialized nutrition care to patients undergoing or considering bariatric surgery.
+ Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments of patients/clients using evidence-based methodologies, develop and implement individualized nutrition care plans and provide medical nutrition therapy (MNT) for various medical conditions.
+ Provide education to support successful weight loss and long-term health, including pre-operative preparation, post-operative guidance, and ongoing support to address potential nutritional deficiencies and promote healthy eating habits.
+ Monitor patient/client progress, modify nutrition interventions as needed, and document all nutrition interventions according to professional standards and healthcare facility requirements.
_MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:_
+ _Registered Dietitian/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist._
+ _MS or MPH in Nutritional Sciences or closely related field._
+ _Experience precepting dietetic interns._
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
+ Doctorate degree in nutrition or any health-related field.
+ Collaboration with dietetics education programs including teaching experience.
Work Experience:
+ At least five years full-time clinical work experience post RDN credentialing.
+ Clinical work in an academic health science center or similar institution.
Skills/Competency:
+ Excellent written/oral communication skills.
