Job Description
Our client is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented engineer to assist with our DHCP infrastructure migration from ISC DHCPD to ISC KEA. This is a contract role expected to last approximately 6-9 months focused on planning, deploying, and verifying a production-grade KEA DHCP environment across multiple data centers with high availability, database backend integration, and automation pipelines.
Duties / Responsibilities Include:
1. Implement or execute new and current processes and procedures that aid in the efficiency of managing and expanding the Service Provider infrastructure.
2. Perform research, analysis, and implementation of software patches or hardware changes needed for security or server-related deficiencies.
3. Evaluate and test new products, services, and internal tools.
4. Champion and drive the configuration and maintenance of mission-critical servers and services.
5. Monitor existing systems to ensure constant availability of Service Provider services.
6. Drives organizational and technical change and new additions to the services catalog.
7. Oversees the development and implementation of new projects, standards, & tools, such as automated scripts and tooling, to enhance Team efficiency, performance, and security.
8. Directs the planning and implementation of new Service Provider Infrastructure capabilities.
9. Ensures all systems are designed and implemented following Hotwire standards, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements (security, resilience, scalability, efficiency, etc.)
10. Collaborate across the company to understand changing business needs and communicate Service Provider Engineering initiatives based on business requirements.
11. Understands successes and failures in the marketplace to guide the firm's technology strategy better.
12. Develop and implement new infrastructure products and standards of operations throughout the technology organization.
13. Develop and document the proposed technical/infrastructure design for integrating and implementing new solutions.
14. Supports vendor relationships in all related technologies so that services are delivered effectively and efficiently.
15. Recommends process improvements to peers and leadership.
16. Completes architectural assessments and unbiased analysis of critical decisions within projects, including impact on systems, timelines, and other key variables.

Skills and Requirements
- 5+ years of experience managing DHCP at scale in Linux environments.
- Experience migrating DHCP services from ISC DHCPD to KEA
- Strong experience with ISC DHCPD and ISC KEA (JSON configuration, classes, hooks).
- Proficiency in PostgreSQL or MySQL configuration and replication models.
Solid understanding of DHCP relay agents, shared networks, and client lease behavior.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions) and IaC platforms like Ansible or Terraform.
- Strong Linux administration skills (RHEL 8/9 preferred).
Ability to manage phased deployments and rollback strategies with minimal user impact. - Experience in telecom, cable, or ISP networks with high lease churn and short lease durations.
- Familiarity with containerized KEA deployments or hybrid VM/container DHCP solutions.
- Prior experience contributing to open-source DHCP ecosystems. null
